In this thread, I asked you ladies what I should do with my mom’s wedding dress.
I ended up having some pictures taken in it, and I plan to surprise my mom with a framed print of one.
And finally, after listening to your feedback, I decided to bring it to a seamstress and have it altered so I could wear it as a rehearsal dinner dress. I asked the seamstress to hack off the bottom, remove the sleeves, and loosen the top so it fit me better. Yesterday, I had my second fitting, and it looks COMPLETELY different. I love it. She’s still going to have to fix a few things in the bust area, but you can now see how the dress will look. And now, ladies, I give you my mom’s newly updated wedding dress:
I’ll post more photos once it’s completely finished (and I’m wearing makeup and nice shoes and such), but I wanted to show off the work in progress. What do you think?

Wow, I am SO glad you decided to do pics first unaltered. And it does look like a totally different dress, but I love it!!! I think you mom is going to be so happy to get those pics of you in the before, and just as happy to see you in it as a reception dress.
Maybe afterwards, you can dye it ala Sherry on Young House Love did her wedding dress so you could wear it afterwards http://www.younghouselove.com/2008/10/i-wanted-to-dye/

I love the pic of you in your mom’s dress! So pretty. She will LOVE and CHERISH that! I also like that you’re able to wear her gown in a very modified, updated manner to your Rehearsal Dinner. I’m sure that will be very special for your mother and also for you! Congrats on your creative and successful solutions!!
