My daugher’s wedding will be March 2016.  She visited me last weekend from Florida.  While she was here we cut the skirt off of my 30 year old wedding dress and I will be making a trumpet skirt from it and adding some of the lace cut from the chiffon overlay.  My daugher’s happiness is much more important than a 30 year old dress that I have not worn since my wedding and will never wear again because it does not fit me anymore.  I hope you mom will come around and let you use her dress. 🙂  In my own daugher’s words…. “I want to be able to tell everyone that my skirt came from my mother’s wedding dress! “

What you could do is have the dress altered, yes. Wear it to only the ceremony. Then change into a reception dress. That way you can have the best of both worlds. If the cost is an issue of hemming it, ask your mother or someone to perhaps help with the cost of it… The dress is rockin’, btw! Don’t listen to people saying “you’re sound like a  brat” because everyone has their own dreams of their wedding day on here. We are particular in our own ways of what we want. No biggie. It’s all a matter of compromise, tis all 😌
