BelleEtoile:  Quick? You’ve been touting that thing around here for awhile.. I’m hardly making rash judgements.

White sapphires are beautiful, but appear very different than a diamond.  I’m surprised you were not aware of what it really was before.  What is the center stone in great-grandmother’s ring?

BelleEtoile:  I agree that it does not matter what your engagement ring is made of or if you even have one.  My center stone is not a diamond and I love it.  I also agree that an engagment ring is something that is given as a gesture of love, but what does it say about that love if it is a lie?  If my DH had lied to me about what my engagement ring was (something he’d never do) I’d question a lot of what he had told me throughout our relationship and my future with him.

I would feel that the love that my engagement ring is supposed to represent would have been somewhat sullied if my Fiance had lied to me about what the ring actually was.

BelleEtoile:  Is the original e-ring a white sapphire or your great grandmother’s ring? Honestly I think the ring in the thread (the grandmother’s) looks like a white sapphire, and is gorgeous btw.

Wait, so your uncle sold your Fiance a stone and told him it was a 4 carat diamond when it was actually a white sapphire? That makes no sense. Or did your Fiance lie to you? Or are you lying to us? Surely if you are going to marry someone you know their financial situation, and you would have to know that a 4 carat diamond would be insanely expensive. Did you never wonder how he could afford that?

This story has a lot of holes. What is the point of going on a wedding forum and lying about your ring specs? Very strange.

I have no issues with a CZ, white sapphire, diamond or piece of string as an engagement ring. I do have an issue with lies, and I would think you would be pretty pissed off about that.

Either the Uncle, your Fiance, or you are lying.

I’m deleting my response because it implied I actually care about any of the answers to the questions I asked.

Sorry that your Fiance lied to you, it must be mortifying to find yourself in this position. I think I actually feel secondhand embrassment all the way over here.

BelleEtoile:  Which one is the sapphire? I’m not good at eye-balling gemstones

Wait why would you get something at an antique shop when you have your great grandmother’s antique ring?
