I was looking at pictures of my wedding dress today, and I remembered a conversation my mom and I had while I was dress shopping. We went to a regular clothing store before we started in on the bridal stores, and she came across an unlined lace dress. And, of course, my mom had to say something crazy because that’s how she is. “Kayrie, you should have a “stripper/prostitute” themed wedding! You can wear THIS (holds up dress), and your bridesmaids can wear stipper outfits and the guys can be pimps. It’ll be AWESOME!!” Of course, she wasn’t serious, but the joke lasted the whole day. For most of the dresses I tried on that day, she gave her opinion followed by “but it’s not “strippery” enough.” And then we’d both burst out laughing, much to the confusion of the ladies in the dress shop.
Has anyone else had something crazy to you just as a joke? Or maybe they were serious…?

Long, long ago when Fiance and I were still teenagers, if the topic of weddings ever came up he would insist that our wedding colors should be sky blue and schoolbus yellow, including my bridal gown and his tux.
I think I was mostly impressed that he knew about wedding colors. ๐
Also I love that your mom has that sense of humor. ๐

@kayrie95: This makes me think of when I went to my first fitting appt, the seamstress was taking my measurements and I burst into song “36-24-36…only if she’s 5’3” and my mom looked at me seriously and said “Really? those are great measurements!”
LOL, hahaha! I told her I wish and that she needs to listen to Sir Mixalot! I am 5’3 but that’s about it!

@hyperJulie: Hahaha! I’m impressed. My Fiance knew basically nothing about weddings. “Colors? We have to have colors? What for?” And I love my mom. She’s hilarious. Her sense of humor is so much like mine that it’s scary and she can always make me laugh.
@MrsJuneBee: Lol!

Hahahah love it!! Your mom sounds awesome. I know when I was planning and the girls went dress shopping with me — oh man, those sales ladies hated us, we were so annoying. I would pull out the MOST HIDEOUS dresses and tell them that I expected them to wear it for the wedding. The sales ladies were not amused and would say things like, “Actually that is a very popular dress, bla bla bla bla.”
Which would then make us start cracking up all over again. ๐

@Mrs. Coyote: Hahaha! I only went with my mom, but if I had gone with my BMs, it would have been like that, too. But my mom had more than enough personality to make up for my lack of other ladies. She actually ended up helping other girls make their dress choices in one shop because they saw how helpful she was with me. She is awesome! ๐

After trying few different shops and gagillion dresses, my mom, sitting on the sofa placed directly behind me as I stared at myself in the giant mirror, fanned herself and said, “if I see another piece of lace, I’m going to throw up all over this white store… but I do like this lace gown.. you should get it”
Another time, she called me from the planner and said “honey I’ve decided on the wedding flowers. We’ll do roses.. Now I know you will be against it because you’re allergic to roses but these are tiny roses.. and I think.. I think you will be fine as long as you don’t inhale too deeply.. with that dress of yours you won’t be able to anyways HAHAHA “
I can go on and on.. my mother is a trip..
One of my all time favorites is actually not wedding related.. Mom was driving and as we were approaching a red light, I realized she wasn’t slowing down, so I said “mom! red light.. MOM ! RED LIGHT!!” as she started slowing down at the very last second, she turned to me and started singing at the same exact time with the song that was playing on the radio “.. I know, I know, I know , I knooow , I know I know” (yes we were listening to Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone)
I remember that moment like it happened yesterday haha
