We are having a fairly decent wedding like about 30k all up. My Fiance decided if we were going to splurge on certain things, we’d have to compromise on something which we both agreed would be the invitations – we are using vistaprint.
My Fiance worked so hard for the past couple of months designing and re-drafting our invitations to make them look perfect. My mum saw them today and fully yelled “That’s it??! It looks so cheap!! How can you have a grand and elegant wedding with invitations like that?! People are going to feel sorry for you” My Fiance was there i felt so sad for him since he invested so much time and effort in it. In the same token, my mum is a pretty level headed woman and has supported my Fi and I through the whole wedding planning while my dad and my fi’s parents are throwing opinions at us left, right and centre.
My mum brought me aside and in a nutshell told me she would give us $350 to basically get better invitations. Of course when I told my Fi, he was understandably offended and so I agreed we would still go with vistaprint because I feel bad all that time would go to waste.
I need some ideas on DIY embellishing invites. Our theme is ivory, champagne gold and blush. If anyone else has their invites from Vistaprint please post them as well!!

can we see a post of them? was it because its the included (cheaper) paper? I used the glossy paper premium for my save the dates and the linen for the invite itself (and the inserts)
I think my invites look pretty nice but I am also adding some DIY with pocketfolds as well. The biggest thing I also added was new envelopes….made everything a lot nicer!

Need pictures, but you could easily get some little bling (not the correct term, I know) stickers from Michaels. They spruced up my DIY engagement party invitations and didn’t look cheap at all.

Let’s see a picture of what you’ve got so far. You can always buy some nice crafty/sparkly paper at Michaels (or other local crafts store) and use it as background. Tape over it the invitations you printed at VistaPrint. You always can add some ribbons, lace, jewels to make them more custom and handmade looking. Depending on how many invitation you have.
Here is an example (but hard to give you concrete one without seeing what you’ve got so far)

Just my opinion. I would send them out as is. They look great! And tell your mom about how hard your Fiance worked on them. And please don’t worry. Everyone goes through this. I’ve had a lot of my wedding ideas criticized as well.

@Katyxa: OMG that looks gorgeous! .. the edging of the paper how its like fancy cut.. did you buy it like that ? or are there special scissors?

Do you like them? Do you think they’re too plain? If you’re happy with them, I’d send them out! No one will “feel sorry for you” because of how your invites look… at least no one I know would!
