@okqueenbee:  Explore here http://www.mydevacurl.com/ if you have some time on your hands, and also check out the Curly Girl Handbook.

Deva is both a way of cutting hair and a product line. It’s only for curly hair, and operates on the premise of embracing and loving your natural curls by making them healthy and cutting them in a style that is perfect for you. My stylist cuts my hair dry and cuts each curl on its own. It takes a while, but she is able to evaluate each curl and figure out the best way to cut it so that it behaves. As for the products, they are truly “-ate”, “-ite”, and “-one” free. There is nothing to strip the hair follicles of their natural protective layers and nothing to coat them in unnatural product layers either. My hair takes maybe 5 minutes total each day.

I am a product junkie. I love trying new stuff and new methods. I’ve exclusively used Deva products and approached for almost 4 years, and I have no intention of ever switching. Ever.

I had naturally curly hair (literally it started growing out curly) from a perm I had. I don’t know how but my hair grew out curly for about three years (my hair grows super fast so I know it was actually growing out curly), then wavy, now back to the almost straight it originally was. And, let me tell you. When it grew out curly, it was a nightmare. My best friend at the time had curly hair and hers was so easily controlled. Mine was a disaster. I was so scared my hair was going to be stuck like that forever. Whew thank God it didn’t.

@MsMeow:  Me too! My hair is pin straight and doesn’t style nicely. I used to spend so much time and put so many chemicals in it trying to get it to stay wavy for 5 minutes. Forget about getting it to curl, lol. It always gets super frizzy when it’s humid or raining, though, and then I look like I just got out of bed.

@msfreemis:  Top 2 photos were taken on wicked humid days. In the first one you can kinda see how my hair was literally sticking to my face and neck because I was so sweaty. hello 94 degrees and intense July sun. Ugh. In each of these i was using 1.5 pumps of the Deva light defining gel and my hair was airdried.

Not today, but in general, I have the most unmanageable hair going.

My hair is super curly, I have a variety of ways I wear my hair, but this FL heat kills it sometimes. Overall, I love my hair tho!

I have super curly ringlets when I let it dry naturally.  If I can’t deal with it, I put it wet in a ballet bun and it dries more or less straight-ish.  That’s what I did yesterday, it’s saying in a bun today, and maybe I’ll just do a conditioner wash tomorrow and let it dry curly.  It just feels like work, especially when I’m working on my thesis at home and no-one sees me but FI!

This is a pic of me from about 8 years ago when my hair was longest.  I miss it when it’s long and healthy, but there’s a long way to go until then.  Meanwhile I am poofy and frizzy and starting to grey.

We were watching the Tonya Harding special on TV the other day and I could not stop thinking about how much I relate to her hair/early 90s hair. It’s so bad. I hate my hair so much!

I think I need to go in for a good non-supercuts haircut and have them use those texturizing scissors to clear out a lot of my “bulk” soon – that should help.
