Sounds like she has a little hernia.  As long as it small and isn’t causing problems, they usually go away. My younger sister had one as well as my nephew, and they both went away on their own.

yeah I have two nieces with this, one is in beauty pagents and wins.  I’m guessing in the scheme of things it’s not that big of deal.

Funny you should ask about this today. I just went to the doctor because my little boy has the same thing. The doctor said it is just an umbilical hernia and it will likely go away on its own over time as he grows. What to expect… Says it may take until 6 or 7 years old.

My sister had one until she was maybe 8 or 9? She was a very small premie, I don’t know if that is why her’s occured or not. It was SUPER cute though 🙂

I’m confused–you’re trying to get rid of her outtie belly button? Isn’t that a normal thing to have?

@vorpalette:  +1

I thought it was normal too?

A few of my friends had them growing up and everyone always thought they were really cute!

My daughter had one for maybe the first 6 weeks, then it gradually went in.  I would not worry about it unless is is causing friction or irritation for her.

My son has an outie, personally I love it, hehe I think he looks so cute especially when we ask him where his belly button is and he lifts his shirt up and shows up. LOL.

I wouldn’t worry about it all

I definitely didnt think outies were a problem – I thought they were normal.  Like left-handed or right handed, innie or outie – both are ok and natural in my mind.

My daughter had an umbilical hernia that was like 1.5 inches. It was kinda gross. The doctor told me that it would considered cosmetic surgery and wouldn’t be covered by insurance since it didn’t actually harm her. So I bought a size up in diapers and wrapped it tight around her belly button to keep it in. It went away in a few months. She’s almost two now and has an innie.

My niece had an outtie until she was about four months old. She is nine months now and has a normal belly button now. Give it some time 🙂
