    I may be biased, since I’m letting my girls wear black, but I love the black dresses! LOVE THEM.

    I don’t think they’re too formal at all.  I think black is classic and AWESOME.  And whatever bouquets they have, the color would pop against it!

    I think that for a late October wedding, black is a great option!  Go for it.

    I love black dresses for bridesmaids.  They are completely re-wearable and so slimming!

    We did black dresses for a very informal wedding! Why not punch it up with some colorful accessories or something? My girls ended up with red flowers and bright red crinolines under their dresses.

    I don’t think black has to be black tie. Don’t do long dresses and add some fun accessories (like the red slips in the pic above) or sashes or colored shoes.

    This is pretty much the dress my girls are wearing.  Only difference is the one we picked, which i can’t find online is a sweetheart neckline.  Our wedding date is Oct 15th and it’s at the beach and black & white.  We opted for an indoor ceremony because in New Hampshire, the weather in October can be unforgiving.  We are doing 2 long stem roses for each girl.  All flowers will be red.  The only touch of ‘beach’ will be the cake (which i want cascading shells down it)  and the favors which will have chocolate shells in little damask pails.  I think you will fine going with the black.  Go for it!  Do what you like.

    I already love your wedding.  I think the black is a good fit for outside.  I also really like the tights idea.  I think that looks very nice.

    check out the little black dresses on eShakti.com  I love that site! and the girls can also change the hemlength, neckline and sleeves on most of the designs and can custom do sizing. I love the bee who turned me onto it!

    I had an outdoor October wedding in Northern VA but during the day and my BMs wore black. I liked how it looked. I agree that a pop of color is a good idea.

     @zippylef: Love the red crinolin!!

    The flower colors are all wrong because my photographer did some photoshoping because the florist messed up and gave me the wrong colored flowers (I wanted orange and pink) but know the Bridesmaid or Best Man flowers look too red. But I thought you’d like to see what black, outdoors with some color looks like. I’m also posting a table arrangement with the original coloring so you can see what orange and purple looks like together.

    The beauty of black is that it can go either way…formal or casual and anywhere in between. If you add color to break up the black, it will look pretty. Just do what feels right for you and it will look great.

    I think black for an Oct wedding would be gorgeous and totally appropriate.

    I’m getting married in october and doing black too! We’re doing an outdoor sunet ceremony in a courtyard of an old mansion. So psyched about black!!!
