Fiance and I had the same issue.. We decided to have a small civil ceremony with just our parents and siblings, followed by a private dinner.. We are the oldest to both of our parents nad we didnt want to hurt them..

But we’ll have a long and lavish honeymoon alone..

Perhaps go to the courthouse with your parents so they’re there to witness, and then re-do your “elopement” in Jamaica and as if you didnt already get married back at home… so you’ll still have the intimate moment and feel of getting married, just the 2 of you.

You don’t have to tell your parents anything.  Just plan the trip and elope.  Tell them when you get back and have a party afterward with everyone.  If you’re grown up enough to get married you’re grown up enough to do it without the involvement of the parents.

@marjtheclarinetist:  So why not an intimate ceremony with your parents only? It doesn’t seem right to “punish” your parents because of your fiance’s parents drama.

As a mother, I’d be disappointed not to see my children’s weddings, because it’s been something I’ve been looking forward to for so long. I’d get over it, but I’d still be disappointed.

@marjtheclarinetist:  We eloped but we did hire a photographer.  Even though we had no one there we were able to share the day via pictures.  You might want to consider that option too.  🙂
