@Coral99:  I’m sorry you had such a bad experience on your honeymoon!  That must have been really disappointing for you, but I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the wedding day.  I hope you have an amazing one year anniversary vacation to make up for it. The good news is that you have the rest of your lives to vacation together ๐Ÿ™‚

I just wanted to weigh on the Jamaica aspect of it, because I went to Jamaica last year and had the opposite experience (at a different resort). I stayed at the Jewel Dunn’s River Resort in Ocho Rios and it was incredible. Every single staff member we met was incredibly kind and helpful. The service was top notch. Everyone worked extremely hard and did it with a smile. I actually still keep in touch with some of the people we met via email.  Like a previous poster mentioned, working conditions are not always great but many people we interacted with said the resort was fair and it was a good job to have… Of course every resort will treat their employees differently.  We felt really badly being on such a lavish, all-inclusive vacation after driving through the towns on the outside of the resort. With that being said, we were sure to leave great tips, which were ALWAYS appreciated.  I loved every person we interacted with there; we had some amazing conversations and an excellent vacation.  I hope you don’t take offense to this description, I just wanted to be sure to get the good side of Jamaica out there!

@Lyndzo:  +100

OP, I’m so sorry that you went through this.  We went there for our honeymoon (we were supposed to be on the St. James side but they upgraded us to Wild Orchid) and loved it!!  It sounds like maybe things have changed there.

@Coral99:  I have been to Jamaica twice and have had great experiences both times (we are returning in May). We have stayed at the Sunset Grande (Ochos Rios) and the IberoStar Rose Hall in Montego Bay. I really recommend Iberostar if anyone is looking for a great resort. Of course, things need to go more smoothly if you are planning to have the wedding there

I appreciate your feedback!

We were planning on travelling to this very resort for our honeymoon, so I will be sure to do some extra research before booking. Thankfully, we have lots of time to decide.

I am sad to hear you had a bad experience. That would be extremely disappointing! Wishing you much better experiences in the future!

@MarriedToMyWork:  This was actually an interesting read. I skipped over parts that I didn’t understand, because it sounds like lawyer-speak (Lol!), but you brought to light some very good points. Just wanted to let you know! ๐Ÿ™‚

@Coral99:  My goodness, sounds like you had a horrible experience! But CONGRATULATIONS on being a wifey as of date!!! Thanks for posting your experience. I looked up the resort and they actually received fairly good reviews. I will make sure to “red flag” this one for future vacation plans.

@Coral99:  You are high maintenance. It sounds like YOU were the problem. I suggest you read marriedtomywork’s comments & grow a conscience.

@Coral99 – I am so sorry to read about your experience there at Secrets.  My husband and I got married there and stayed for our honeymoon back in May of 2012.  We stayed in the preferred club on the Wild Orchid side.  We and our guests had the most wonderful time.  My only issue was that when the steamed my dress – they unbustled it and then we coudnt figure out how to bustle it back up and I was late for the ceremony.  Looking back on it – its funny now, but at the time I was upset.  Other than this – it was an amazing experience!

I hope that you are able to get some sort of compensation/free vacation to another resort back from them.  If you booked thru a travel agent, I would start with them – they will probably have more luck at helping you.

Best wishes to you!

@Coral99:  I really like Jamaica but i did not have a wedding there. I have been there twice (and going again in May) and probably wouldn’t have been bothered by a lot of what you mentioned (now that you mention it, I remember I did cut my foot on a rock on the beach and think I got stung by something in the water as well)  but weddings are different.

@Coral99:  Oh no, this scares me, too! We booked our Honeymoon at Secrets MB Wild Orchid and I really hope we don’t have the same experience you did ๐Ÿ™ I had read tons of reviews and while most of them WERE great, I did notice that several people did complain of having things stolen out of their rooms or their things rifled through, so we will definitely be using the safe. Thank you for the information, I am so sorry you had such a horrible experience!

@LabDarling:  Please let us know how your Honeymoon goes! I would love some more real reviews before my Honeymoon to make sure I don’t need to cancel or anything!

My Honeymoon isn’t until September but I will make sure to come back and let you all know how it goes, if anyone is still interested by then.

Coral99:  I’m sorry you had such a terrible experience!! I would have been disappointed with that service as well. Did you ever get everything resolved for a partial refund? I did also want to add that we went to Jewel Runaway Bay in Jamaica and had a wonderful time! The service and people were great- they went above and beyond for us and we would definitely go back!! The scuba diving was fantastic and the instructors were amazing. I will say that I did notice a huge difference between Cancun in Mexico and Jamaica though. Jamaica is a poor, 3rd world country and it shows. Our horse drawn carriage ride went through the “nice” neighborhood nearby where the doctors and lawyers lived- many of the homes didn’t have glass windows, air conditioning, the roads were in disrepair, and a bunch of cows in chains were wandering down the street eating the weeds on the road side (we were told the farmers owned the cows but not any land to feed them). So our room was not as nice, the food wasn’t as fancy, etc in Jamaica whereas our resort in Cancun was top notch and world class- so I think comparing the two is comparing apples to oranges a bit. I guess there’s a good reason it is cheaper to go to Jamaica than Cancun.
