@IVKWed: I do plenty of engagement sessions, and they last an hour to 1.5 hours. I couldn’t imagine what I would have to charge for a 3 hr session. It’s not feasable for me, and unnecessary for the couple. Usually they start getting tired around that 1.5 hr mark. How many proofs do you provide and final images for a 3 hr session? (just curious).

@USER876: Well we both know that photographers have different ways of offering services to their clients. I have found that the couples who book me love having that much time for an engagement session, it really is a time for us to get to know each other and the couples who choose these session are the closest and most trusting clients I have, its a win for everyone. I dont gauruntee a specific amount of images per hour but on average clients can expect between 100-200 images for 3 hours of coverage. And I dont limit them to just one outfit or location, we go all around town with several outfits in tow, we have a lot of fun! Hey feel free to send me a message if you would like to talk shop sometime. Ive always wondered where you are from and like getting to know other photographers here on the board!

Unfortunately I wouldn’t expect your deposit back. Most photography companies don’t refund deposits or retainers, but for a $4000 commitment you should definitely feel confident in the person you hired. I also feel like you should hire someone whose work you like well enough that you don’t feel like you need to be showing them samples of what you want. They should already do what you want!
