Just out of curiosity, has it been determined that you need progesterone supplement? I know they say Clomid can help raise progesterone, so I’m just wondering if you actually need it or if they are suggesting it?

Is it too late for you to make a flex spending contribution for the year? Or sign up for next year and wait a month and a half to start? It’ll bring the price down substantially since it’s pre-tax dollars.

Contact your RE and find out if you have any other options.  Infertility treatments are notoriously expensive, but so are kids.  PP’s suggestion about switching insurance plans is a good idea if you have a choice.  I am planning to switch from my PPO to an HMO when we start TTC because the out of pocket max is much lower (think half and then divide that in half!) and my OB/GYN still takes the HMO as a PCP so he doesn’t need referrals.

@MrsStrawberry24:  Need to contact the prescription benefit plan portion of the insurance company first to see if it’s covered by their prescription benefit plan and they can usually give you a ballpark estimate of what you would pay.  Usually cheaper to use mail order direct from the prescription plan than a standing pharmacy as well.

I wouldn’t trust any websites selling prescription medications, especially if you are TTC.  A painkiller or an antibiotic is one thing but you would be putting an unknown substance into your body while actively TTC and possibly pregnant.  That’s very risky IMO.

Living in IL you are pretty close to Canada.  Any way the medication you need is non prescription are able to be prescribed by a pharmacist in Canada and you can take a roadtrip to pick it up?

@MrsStrawberry24:  Wow, 7K out of pocket already!?? That’s insane. Good luck to you!

ETA: Also, I don’t know if you’ve got your Clomid yet or not, but I got mine from WalMart and it was only $9 I think? Something real low like that. I’d check them out for the Clomid, and who knows, maybe the progesterone too?

I used crinone for 5 days before we found out my pregnancy was ectopic….. My RE gave me a coupon for a $100 off and also she gave me some samples and STILL it was $87 for ONE WEEK.  Insane.

Too Much Information alert…. you may have some “sludge” like discharge from the gel that the progesterone is in.  I did and when I googled it there are some not-to-pretty descriptions.  Just be ready.

@MrsStrawberry24:  No advice, but I feel your pain. I spent about $600 on progesterone while I was in the TWW and early pregnancy. Not cheap. 🙁

I hear ya! Luckily my insurance now pays for it…It was going to be $350 and I got it for $10… I agree about the health spending plan!
