Hello! I’m new to this blog. I just got engaged to the man of my dreams and I would like to share my proposal story with you!
It was my birthday, March 26th. Me and my Japanese boyfriend had been dating for 4 years and had been living together in Tokyo for one year. In a few weeks, he was going to move to China for a year for business. I was sad because of his impending move. But on my birthday, I tried to push all sad thoughts away and enjoy my last birthday with him for a few years.
I knew that my boyfriend had my birthday night all planned out, but I only knew that we were going to have dinner at a very fancy restaurant in Shinjuku, Tokyo and then spend the night in the Park Hyatt Hotel in the same building. We had a really nice dinner, chatting and joking with each other like usual. Then he gave me the dessert menu and asked what I wanted for dessert. In the back of my mind, I was thinking Aw, so he’s not going to surprise me with a birthday cake and the birthday song? which is what he always did on my birthday before. But in the end, I didn’t care so much about surprises so I ordered the strawberry tart. About 10 minutes later, the dessert came out with birthday candles and a note on white chocolate that said “Mara, love you forever”. My boyfriend then gave me a bouquet of flowers and told me about how we have been together for 4 years, and how he loves me so much. He will have to move to China for one year, but he will always love me forever. He then stood up and knealed down next to me, My heart started to beat like crazy because I knew what was going to happen. He pulled out an engagement ring, and asked me if I would marry him. I was so happy and overwhelmed that I could barely squeak out a “Yes!” Everybody in the restaurant applauded. He then put the ring on my finger and told me that this ring was only temporary. He then pulled out a jewelery box and opened it. Inside was a beautiful and HUGE diamond and a slideshow video with pictures of the two of us, accompanied with a song called “Will You Marry Me?”. My fiance then turned around to two men that were sitting behind us, and told me that they were actually his friends and they were filming the proposal this whole time!
He then told me to close my eyes because he had another surprise for me. I had no idea what he could possibly have been up to. Soon after, he told me to open my eyes….and there were my parents, who I hadn’t seen in many months and had come all the way from America to see the proposal, all according to my fiance’s plan. I had never been so happy in my life.
Here is the picture of the engagement.
