- Wedding: November 2013
I thought I’d post this now since i have been engaged for exactly 2 weeks.
My Fiance and I had looked at rings before Christmas and I found THE ONE. we had gone in just casually, but we ended up sitting down with the jeweler and looking at my dream ring’s gorgeous diamond under a microscope. Of course, the whole time I was just like “We can leave anytime” quietly to him when the jeweler walked away. He said no it was fine. Then the jeweler asked me to go look at something else while he talked to my boyfriend. I did, thinking that my boyfriend would just say that he would think about it and we’d leave. After abother 10 min or so, we left. I said jokingly to my boyfriend “Did you buy anything?” to which he said “You’d think so after spending all that time.” (We had been in there for like an hour and a half total).
Later that week, we talked about how it was time for us to get engaged. We both agreed that it was time, since we had been together for almost 5 years and had both graduated nursing school the previous spring and now had good jobs. We decided on a wedding date of 11-12-13 but he didn’t propose or anything. I said it wouldn’t feel official until we had a ring. He said he wanted to make sure the one I had seen was really my favorite out there first. So I looked online and at other stores. He looked at men’s bands. CONSTANTLY. So I knew he was totally serious. He. Never. Looks. At. Jewelry.
I was scheduled to go out of town on January 13th, so I was not expecting any proposal anytime soon. On the night of January 11th my boyfriend kept waking up and going out into the living room and couldn’t sleep. The morning of the 12th, my alarm went off and he jumped right out of bed and opened the shades. (Weird behavior…we usually hit snooze for a while). I was getting a headache since I didn’t sleep well either, with him getting up all night. I rolled over and asked him to close the shades so I could sleep longer. He did, knowing that I can be a grump without a good nights sleep. Poor guy! An hour later when I finally woke up for good, he got out of bed and opened the shades again, then climbed back into bed and we cuddled. When he moved away a little he was holding his hand kind of awkwardly. I noticed he had a ring on his pinky finger…the wedding band I had picked out to go with my THE ONE ering. I was like “What’s that?” And he just smiled. He climbed out of bed and stood up, so I stood up too. I was like “why did you get that band?” I really didn’t get it yet! He said “because of this” and kneeled down and produced THE ONE! He said “Stargaze, you are my best friend and I love you so very much. I want to grow old with you, have children with you. Will you please marry me?” FINALLY, I got it! I started getting all teary-eyed and said “Of course, YES!” and he put the ring on my finger and stood up and kissed me and said “You make me very happy”. Our sweet dog was there, our little girl, licking our faces and he said he had wanted her to be there for it.
He proposed exactly 10 months before our wedding date, and exactly 1 week before our 5 year anniversary. I think he would have waited for the anniversary, but I was going to be out of town, and the day he did choose to do it was actually perfect! 1-12-13
I know my proposal story isn’t this whole amazing, dramatic, completely set up beforehand thing, but it was US! And it was perfect! Something else would have felt too fake for us.
By The Way, it turns out he DID buy the rings on that very day back in December (12-13-12) that we had looked. He said when he saw my face with it on, he knew it was THE ONE and that nothing else would compare. Just like he knew I was THE ONE long long ago. 🙂
