Good Evening Bees!
So it has been one year since my engagement and I realized that besides bits and pieces on other threads, I have yet to officially share my proposal story. So, snowed in, and waiting for my fiancé to finish preparing a late night dinner in the kitchen, what better time than now? So here goes:
Once upon a time….hahahha. Just kidding.
It was my 30th birthday. To celebrate I invited out 30 of my closest friends (not intentionally 30, it just ended up to be that). The plan was to go see a (AHL) hockey game at the Hartford Civic Center than hit up a bar or two. I was very excited to see everyone. You know how life gets; you never see everyone as much as you would love to. So we all met outside the civic center and headed in together.
Here are a couple pics of some of my girls with Mr. & Mrs. Claus. So sad I missed this photo opp!
After we headed in, we stopped to get some beer (it was significantly discounted for about another half hour so we wanted to get our money’s worth). It was standing in the beer line that my then-boyfriend started to irritate me. He was freaking out that we needed to get into the arena and the game had already started and someone was going to take our seats. “Are you insane?” I asked him. “We have assigned seats. Relax. We’re just grabbing a beer and then we’ll go in.” He couldn’t relax. I figured the stress of helping organize the huge group outing was getting to him. I let it go.
Soon after finding our seats the marketing rep that sold us the group tickets came down and introduced himself. He explained that since it was my birthday and we had purchased so many tickets, my boyfriend and I were invited onto the ice for a shoot-out after the first quarter. Yaaahhh! How fun! I was completely convinced that I would win this! Game-on!
So, they set up the first three pucks and he went first.
He made all three. Show off.
Next, was my turn. Miss. Made it!!!! Miss.
Darn. I guess having never held a hockey stick before, I probably was a little too confident in my shoot-out abilities. And little did I know what was going on behind me…
Until I turned around….
WHAT!! Are you kidding me??!!!
I knew that this was coming (we had gone ring shopping together) but didn’t expect this. I honestly, don’t remember what he said. Next thing I knew the announcer had the microphone in my face, repeating the last thing I managed to hear my boyfriend say, “Will you marry him?” he asked. I shrieked a “yes” and then jumped up and down a bit. I can’t believe I didn’t fall on my face on the ice. Haha. Thank God!
I was thrilled. Here’s a pic of me showing off my new ring to my friends in the stands.
And so was my fiance. All smiles.
Him and the marketing rep were very proud of themselves for pulling this off.
All of our friends were really excited too. And surprised!
Here is a shot of most of us at the end of the night (along with a few photo-bombers! hahahaha).
BEST. BIRTHDAY. SURPRISE. EVER. I can’t believe he pulled it off!
Now, after 11 years together, a 9 year old son and a one year of being engaged, we just have 6 months until we FINALLY get married.
Bees, I have waited a long time for this and so has he. It’s about time…
Let’s do this.
