- Wedding: May 2012
We’ve actually been engaged for quite some time…our wedding is in May…less than six months away! But I figured I’d share my story.
Ever since we started dating, we had talked about taking a trip to San Francisco and California wine country. So in April 2011, we finally took our week-long trip. Most people were expecting us to come back engaged, but I was not convinced. I mean, it would have been nice, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up.
We spent a few amazing days up in Napa and Sonoma sans proposal. As we drove back down to San Fran, I thought to myself “Well, if it didn’t happen in wine country, it’ll happen when we get back to D.C.”. After a failed attempt to go to Muir Woods, we decided to stop in Sausalito for a spur-of-the-moment pit stop. I was concerned with one thing — getting ice cream. We walked up and down near the water for awhile before finally finding an ice cream shop. While I was content with eating it as we walked back to the car, Eric thought it’d be nice if we sat near the edge of the water and ate while overlooking San Fran.
We found this nice little secluded spot right on the water to sit. Eric finished his ice cream quickly, and started taking pictures, so I said I could finish my cone as we walked back to the car (we had to return our rental car and I didn’t want to be late!). He said to hold on a second … he wanted to take another picture. I turned away for a split second, and when I looked back at him, there he was, down on one knee, holding the ring. I immediately began to cry (totally missing what he said) but remember saying yes. I later found out he said something along the lines of “Will you continue to make me the happiest man in the world? Will you marry me?”
