I totally think you should have been informed of them making changes prior. How were you supposed to know this without them letting you know?? They cannot just assume you would know, or that they didn’t have to tell you and you would like whatever changes were made. I would go back and speak with a manager and let them know that this was not what you wanted and that you were never informed of any changes being made.

Edit: I would have never taken the ring home because now they can say it’s nonrefundable/ nonreturnable since you’ve already signed off and taken it out of the store. But either way they should be accommodating as I believe they are totally in the wrong.

aclockworklilac :  I agree with the PP – did they say, ‘hey this will force the stone up much higher than how the setting presents”? Because if not, then they should fix it for you. No question. I’d be super mad.

Don’t wait any longer and take it back to the store ASAP.  If they are a manufacturing Jeweler they should be able to lower the stone.  Before you go back though I would get a 2nd opionion elsewhere to double check what you want done can easily be achieved.  That way you can go back in the store armed with some knowledge and not be talked out of it. If you feel uncomfortable complaining,  maybe take a friend with you that has a strong personality and will stand up for you.

aclockworklilac : Obviously I haven’t seen your ring, but if it looks as out of place as you are advising, then absolutely do not accept this work from them!!

This is your ring and they need to make it right.  Part of custom is doing custom work that the customer is happy with; not making changes to accomodate the stone size/shape and not informing the customer that it will change the entire look of the ring.  You definitely made a mistake in paying for it and taking it home, but it’s not too late.  Take it back to the store, talk to a manager, and insist that they make it right.  Did you sign something that said you would not be able to return it or was that just a verbal statement they made?

aclockworklilac :  do you tell them your stone size when ordering the setting? I thought custom setting can be make according to stone size? Sound like the setting is too small for your stone, so they have to set it higher.

If you have spesified the stone size and the setting is sent wrong, I guess you can complain to them? It should be looking the same with their pic.

Nice setting though!!

It looks gorgeous and not too high at all to me. I would try wearing it for a bit to see if you can get used to the height

aclockworklilac :  oh it just looks a bit more cathedral now! My stone sits about this high. It took me a bit to get used to it but now i love it.

Looks like a typical cathedral setting to me! My stone sits about this high and you get used to it very quickly. Very pretty side detail!

the prongs look like they curve in quite alot, but it actually doesn’t appear any “taller” to me…

I actually like it…I think you just need to get adjusted to it; being an oval and not a round, you can’t expect it to look exactly the same

sorry it isn’t what you dreamed of bee 🙁

Can we see a picture from the top so we can see the stone? I honestly think your ring is beautiful

I really, really love it! I don’t think it’s over the top or anything – I think that if you get used to it, it won’t feel too big at all.

I honestly don’t think it looks too high. It’s a cathedral setting so it will hover over your finger a little higher than  other solitaire settings, but I think it’s beautiful. I think it was just different to what you had in your head so it’s taking a bit of time to adjust to it. I don’t think it looks gaudy or ridiculous, I think it looks quite elegant.
