@KsoontobeN:  Aww, I’m sad you went through all of that!

I can’t stand mall jewelry stores for the simple fact that the sales associates know less about jewelry than a lot of people on the streets. Add that to the fact that they either have hit or miss customer service & I just think they suck.

I would say if something like this happens again, so to a private reputable jeweler to get their opinion on the setting integrity etc…

I hope you get it back & it’s happily ever after smooth sailing from here on out!

@KsoontobeN:  PAve rings are notorious for stones falling out.  Maybe choose a different type of setting without pave set stones?

That is horrible, I would look into selling the diamonds and going with another jeweler or taking the whole thing and getting it redesigned into something better. There’s no way they should treat you like that.

How horrible, I would have been crushed. So disappointing.

I made sure to really look into warranty information when we bought my ring. My ring came with a lifetime warranty at the jeweler we bought it from and requires no checks or cleanings. It did not cost any more on top of the price of the ring. My ring is WG and it also included lifetime redipping for free. This was part of what lead me to want to buy from this place as opposed to online or from a chain/mall store.

However, you and your Fiance should have clearly been told what you needed to do to keep up your warranty when there are conditions to it. I hate that they sell something like that to you and then make you jump through hoops to get any benefit from it. 🙁

I hope that when your ring comes back it’s fixed properly and that this does not keep happening to you.

And Kay is notorious for bad customer service. I’ve had a few bad experiences with them, and so have ppl I know IRL. Those people that “work” there obvoiusly didn’t know their jobs when they neglected to tell you about the diamond checks, then tried to make you pay a ridiculous amount to get it fixed?! That makes me so angry for you. I had a ring from Kay and the stone would NOT stay in, and they tried to nickel and dime me and I eventually said forget it.

I’m sure plenty of people had great experiences from them, and that’s great. By the way, OP, I DO like your ring. I think it’s a pretty setting concept, and I love the different colored stones against the white (black diamonds?). Just because a ring has pave does NOT mean that you have to resign yourself to a life-time of missing stones. Especially the center-which isn’t even pave! I hope this will be the last of your problems.

I would do what other bees suggested and go to a small, locally owned jewelry store. 

Before Fiance bought my ring, I told him I specifically did not want a ring from a mall jewelry store because I’ve heard nothing but horror stories (FI’s SIL, friends, etc).

Fiance bought my ring from eBay and whenever I need repairs done, I take it to a local jewelry store and manufacturer. They have the BEST customer serivce. I took my ring to get sized and after wearing it for a few days I realized it was still a little too big- so I took it back in and they re-sized it free of charge. You just can’t beat small businesses.

@KsoontobeN:  that is crazy.  i’ve heard of the odd pave stone coming out of a setting but not the centre ones. 

i keep hearing bad things about kay’s and jared’s.  they always try to squeeze every dime out of the customer even though they bought the warranty.  i can’t believe it’s going to take 90 days!  that is unheard of.  are they making you a whole new ring in that time?

Ugh I can sort of relate with the idiot associate not notifying the warranty company of your purchase – we just went through the same thing with a fridge bought from Best Buy/Pacific Sales (the company that sells the large appliances inside our BB). Took us two months and a couple dozen phone calls, emails, and faxes to FINALLY get someone to recognize that YES we paid for your STUPID warranty.
