I can’t imagine your SIL stealing it to wear (that’d be pretty obvious it was your ring)  but could there be a way that she wants to swoop in and “save the day?” Do you think she took it just to later “find” it for you?

sorry you’re going through this!

I can’t believe that your SIL would steal the ring… that is LOW! and unless you have reason to believe she has major issues (ie drug addiction) then I would let that stay in the absolute back of my head and not really mention that again.

most likely the dog knocked the cup down and it is in some crack in the floor or edge of the rug or stuck in the sheets or something. I am sure it feels like you looked everywhere but rings have a way of hiding like that and the dog could have hidden it someplace or just accidentall knocked it  or eaten it.

make sure they check the vacuum bag and trash and dog food and dog toys and just every inch of the room

sunnierdaysahead2 :  Such an odd situation all the way around! I hope the dog didn’t eat it, but I also hope that your SIL isn’t at fault here either. I hope they are able to find your ring asap! If not, at least it’s insured. Good luck!

Oh no!!! I really hope it turns up. Fingers crossed your Brother-In-Law has had the dog x-rayed by now. The ring could cause some damage in there (both our idiot cats have eaten foreign objects and had to have life saving object removal operations).

But – my instincts say it wasn’t the dog. I think it will turn up somewhere in the room. Or your SIL has it. She sounds shady as fuck in my opinion. Pardon my language. I’m a neat freak-o but I would never make the bed guests are staying in nor enter the room they were staying in until they left. WTH was she stripping the bed already? You weren’t even dressed yet!

After reading your story and your update I would question your SIL. Something seems a bit fishy in your story about her.

sunnierdaysahead2 :  Just playing devil’s advocate, but is there proof that she actually took the dog to the vet for an x-Ray? Something sounds so fishy about it all.

I do hope you find it soon though. I once could have sworn I placed my ring on the side table like I usually do but it wasn’t there in the morning. I went insane looking! Turns out I left it on and took it off in my sleep haha. It somehow got stuck underneath the bed sheet(the first sheet that hugs the mattress) and found it randomly one day.

sunnierdaysahead2 :

I have a weird feeling about the SIL…any chance she stole it to sell it, or she is jealous of it? Something isn’t sitting right about her…sorry to be so skeptical…

Did you check between the bed frame/side rails, I had a ring bounce off my nightstand and it landed between the box spring and the wood side rail I looked and looked and could not find it and one day thought to remove the matress and box spring and there it was, I have no idea how it ended up there because it was such a tight fit. I hope it is found soon!

I’m going to have to disagree with most PPs. I really doubt it’s the SIL. She can act weird and not like you — that’s one thing — but for her to go so far as to steal a diamond ring worth tens of thousands from her own family member? That’s pretty batshit and is basically asking for burning bridges forever. And it’s not like she could ever wear it without her husband being like “umm isn’t that sunnier’s lost ring?”

Unless she has a history of lifting valuables and/or is Gollum, I just don’t see it happening.

You are probably right…I even felt a little crazy suspecting the SIL – her demeaner as I am understanding it through the post just seems weird. I wasn’t thinking about her stealing it to wear it, I was thinking more along the lines of selling (if anything)…which I agree – also sounds a bit crazy!

sunnierdaysahead2 :  well my German Shepherd ate an earring and a necklace or bracelet (can’t remember) so yeah, a dog could eat a ring!

Your SIL sounds insane. Who responds “yes it’s beautiful” when being asked by someone obviously looking for something “have you seen my ring?”!!! Cray-zeee. Honestly she seems a more likely culprit than the dog. Not necessarily like she took it but it wouldn’t surprise me if she knocked over the cup with the sheets and heard the ring fly off in a certain direction and decided to not care.

She took the dog to the vet so you have seen the x-rays? Again it wouldn’t surprise me if she took the dog to the vet for a biscuit, no x-rays done…
