is a fake! π And now no longer my ring to be.
SO noticed a chip on one of the side stones. I’ve never seen the ring, it’s never been worn, barely been out of the box! So he had it appraised today and it turns out that about 1/4 of the side stones he was told were Diamonds, are fakes. And the Main stone, my Heart cut Tanzanite… also fake!
I’m crushed! I don’t even know what he’s going to do, I say he should sue or return it and get his money back. Ugh so pissed!

I’m curious as to where he bought it. Some of the jewelry in some popular, well known stores sometimes just doesn’t seem authentic.

sadly I don’t know, haven’t even seen the ring yet. I do know that his former boss suggested this jeweler and was the middleman in the whole process. I think he should call the BBB, a lawyer and maybe even the news! Someone has to be able to get him his money back!

@annasaf83: ….that is TERRIBLE! :/
I hope you can work things out…I really have no advice. That’s CRAZY. I was looking forward to seeing your ring, too! π
There has got to be a way for him to get his money back – this is illegal. Especially if he paid by credit card, he is much more protected that way.
Please keep us updated.

Oh my. I’m so sorry this happened to you and your SO. I hope he is able to obtain a full refund immediately and that whoever is responsible for this falsehood is prevented from swindling anyone else.

Well, that sucks, but better you find out sooner rather than later.
Hope a resolution can be reached, and that a new sparkly can be on its way.

That’s terrible π Still, at least you hadn’t fallen in love with the ring before you found out. SUE!! Hope he paid by credit card and that it wasn’t that much..

I am so sorry this happened to you! But better now than later. I’ve heard so many stories like this when it concerns a jeweler who is a friend of a friend…etc. Never involve a “middleman” when buying jewelry. It should involve the customer and the jeweler, that’s it!! I’m sure he will be able to rectify the situation, good luck and keep us posted!!

UPDATE: SO and I went to Atlantic City for a day of shopping and gambling (he won $64 playing penny slots!) and while we were walking around we passed a Jewelry store and I suggested we go in and look, just to see what they had, and get some price ideas. I asked the sales lady if they had any Tanzanite, she showed us to another saleswoman who then showed us to the Tanzanite case, I searched but couldn’t find a Heart cut, they did have a trillion cut but it just didn’t grab my attention. I told the sales lady that I was looking for a heart cut, in white gold, she said they didn’t have any. SO and I were just about to walk out of the store when she said “What about an Amethyst?” and she pulled out the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen. A 3 carat Heart Cut Rose de France Amethyst with Diamond accents set in Rose Gold. When I saw the size, cut and shape of this ring it took my breath away! Here it is:

It was on sale, a MAJOR sale! SO looked over the ring, knew I loved it and bought it on the spot! Only thing is it needs to be resized and then he will propose somewhere around Feb. But… I live close to the jewelry store up here, and I am taking it to get resized tomorrow… without him lol and so tonight I can only wear it on my pinky finger, but it is gorgeous. I love it.
Now if only we could get SO’s money back from the other Jeweler! (He spent loads more designing that ring only to end up with a fraud!)
