It’s a 7.5 watermelon tourmaline with flashes of pink and green- it looks peachy or champagne colored when the light’s a bit dimmer! My sweetie found it on eBay(the stone, that is), which is a pretty great place to find unusual stones(or rings in general, TBH). The stone was about $50.
We had thought to get a custom ring from a local jeweler, but that was way out of our price range. I wanted it to be about $500 total. But I was selling some old jewelry, and I took the stone in to show it off, and the jeweler said, “I have just the setting for this, if it hasn’t sold yet!” He thought this setting would show it off so well that he knocked about $400 off the price to bring it down so we could afford it- it still was over budget, but the jewelry I was selling took care of that. With the store credit it came to just $500, including setting and sizing. Together they’re worth about $1200, retail. The mounting was part of a set, and he offered to make me a solitaire to fit inside, but he thought of this first because it shows off the colors so perfectly. It’s unusual, but I love it!
More pictures of the stone!

Oh, for those who are interested, it’s 1.9 carats, but obviously tourmaline has a different density and weight than diamond(and it’s cut fairly deep), and 7.5 mm works out to about 1.67 carats in diamond weight.
I learned a lot about gems when we were talking about what we wanted!

I’ve never seen a tourmaline before (I live under a rock, ha ha ha…) but if this is the standard, what a GORGEOUS gem. Wow, it’s going to look so pretty once set! Congratulations. 🙂
