Barbiestylez:  Sorry your family is going through this.

There really is no way to tell how he will fare. If it was a direct hit (which is likely as he had a cardiac arrest), the lightning does damage along the whole path it travels through the body. He will have entrance and exit burns, plus burns along the path the lightning took.

Cardiac -wise, it depends on what damage was done and how quickly he was resuscitated.

Sending him good wishes.

I heard about this story on the news. I remember thinking how insane it was. Best wishes.

It will take a few days to determine the extent of the damage to his body. If he suffered cardiac arrest and a defibulator was used shortly after, his chances of survival are greater.

It would be difficult to determine if it were a direct hit or not. It could just as easily have first hit something beside him and then bounced toward him. Exit and entry locations aren’t indicators of this.

If he was hit in the parking lot, an indirect hit would be more likely as the lightning would have statistically been more attracted to the vehicles or the structure of the stadium, which is a good thing.

It sounds like he’s gravely ill with injuries to several systems (neurologic, cardiac, and musculoskeletal) and the next several days may be challenging with other systems becoming involved.  All you can do is take one day, or one hour at a time.  I’m very sorry to hear this, and hope and pray for the best.

Wow, that is terrible. I can’t comment on potential outcomes, but I am so, so sorry you and your family are going through this. Hugs hugs hugs to you.

The short (and pretty unhelpful vague) answer is it could impact any system – brain, heart, muscles, kidney, eyes, ENT, psych – and range from no impairment to very severe impairment.

The doctors who are caring for him really are the best source of information regarding what the future may hold, and I doubt that they really know at this point either.  Though I suspect that over the next several days it should start to sort out and they will have a better idea about what the future holds.  I know that uncertainty and waiting are very difficult.  I hope this goes well for everyone.

I have no idea about this type of issue. I said prayers for both of you. I truly hope he has a complete recovery.

I’m glad that tests are coming back normal, and hope that the coma lightens soon.  Waiting is not easy.
