My boyfriend and I have only been in a relationship for two months (we have been talking for longer than that) but he knows I am the one for him. So we have already started our search for engagement rings so he can get a price range and save up. We went to the places in the mall closest and I found a gorgeous ring at Kays. Neil Lane designed it and it was 4k. As much as I wanted that ring, we had to figure we were partially paying for the name and the ring itself didn’t have many great reviews. The diamonds popped out and if we are paying that much, we are not going to want to keep going to the store.
We went to other places but they either didn’t seem very enthused or were pressuring for a sale. I was getting discouraged but figured that he already knew the price range, what style I wanted etc. He then heard about a place further away from where we are and decided he would take me there. We actually made a weekend out of it as I wanted to go to another town to spend my saturday but he made it an entire weekend trip. So I planned the entire day saturday on going to different places to find a ring. We got into the car and he drove, and I found it a little odd that I didn’t even have to tell him the place but this place he had been talking about for a little bit.
When we went in, the place was nice and of course the shinies caught my attention. He told the lady a price range and I gave my style I wanted which was a halo and preferably a round. We went through many styles until I found that i couldn’t stop looking at nor could I keep it off. The price for just the setting was alright but I wanted to know all of the prices of the stones plus they can take any picture and either find a ring like it or they could make one. I showed them the ring I found and that is when the owner came out. She asked which ones I liked, explained what they did for me as they would take down a list and when my boyfriend came back in later, he would know which to get.
She even asked what cut of diamond I like and I told her cushion cut, round and oval. After that, she brought out this beautiful cushion cut, only thing is I noticed it wasn’t a white diamond. I thought it was just a lower quality and was getting nervous. When she put it up to the setting I wanted, it wasn’t what I was looking for so I told her it didn’t look good at all. Then she brought out a gorgeous yellow diamond oval. She told me it was over a half carat but it looked bigger than that. When she put it up to my setting, I realized it was the stone for my ring. She told me it was a fancy sunshine yellow and it was a 3800 stone. I was sad at that point as the setting was almost as much as the diamond and it was WAY out of my boyfriend’s price range. But she assured me that it would be and she gave out a price and when my boyfriend said okay, I had a huge smile on my face and was very very excited! I didn’t expect him to buy the ring, nor did I expect a yellow diamond! They did all of the paperwork, and said they would put it together for me before my boyfriend wanted it but he wouldn’t say as he wants the date and place of the engagement to be a surprise
When we got into the car, I was talking about how great the place was but was a little uneasy about it as they acted a little strange and I felt they were pushing a sale. Plus they never showed me exactly what I wanted which was a round stone or any white diamonds. So when we arrived at a walmart, I mentioned to my boyfriend that they didn’t show me any white diamonds. That is when he got a look and said “yeah lets go into the store!” I was confused and asked him what he did, and after a little bit of him trying to hide it, he admitted to calling the lady ahead of time. She heard he was military and gave him a great discount on my ring. He had told her that I liked canary diamonds so she told him the closest she had was the fancy sunshine yellows. The cushion she had wasn’t an actual yellow so she discouraged me from that and got me towards the yellow oval he had chosen out before I got there. He was so relieved that I found the setting but I felt as if I put it together. When I found out that he chose the diamond, set this whole thing up and helped design it, it made my ring SO much more special to me plus it made me realize that I have somebody who is amazing. I am not engaged yet but I wanted to share my story. I still can’t believe he set this all up for me. Now I get to enjoy the anticipation of engagement!
