I went on a 6 week work trip to Switzerland which was extremely hard for both of us. The six hour time difference really took a toll on how often we could talk – I didn’t eat and barely slept the first week I was there! Thankfully I got over my nerves and sadness to enjoy Europe and now I can’t wait to go back!
I flew back the day of our 3 year “dating” anniversary and could not WAIT to see my boyfriend in the arrivals area. After the 10 hour flight I was so anxious, it was actually getting hard to breathe. After fighting through customs and every other arriving flight at 5 PM on a Friday, I see him! I’m running and pushing through the crowd, even abandoning my luggage at one point (big no no these days) and jump into his arms. As he’s twirling me around and around, I said “I couldn’t think of a better anniversary gift – seeing you again!” and he said “actually…I can”. I was so confused…he reached in his pocket but since we were standing so close, it felt like he was putting something in my pocket. I’m thinking “dang! he’s giving me money!” hahaha Well come to find out, he was pulling out the most gorgeous ring I’ve ever seen! My shy boyfriend dropped down on one knee in front of hundreds, possibly thousands of strangers and asked me to be his wife! Everyone around us was clapping and hollering – it was insanely romantic and bold of him to do it there!!
As if he didn’t do enough, he had a limo outside to drive us 2 hours home. The limo was fully equipped with all of my favorite wines and snacks that I had missed terribly while I was gone! It was so perfect 🙂
The ring is from the 1940’s – it was his Grandma’s engagement ring. It has his Grandma and Grandpa’s initials engraved in it. The ring was cut off of her and the setting was missing – so he got it put back together and placed a beautiful 3/4 carat princess cut diamond in the middle. It is definitely my favorite Swiss proposal 🙂
