I would just say “I love you and thank you for your input, but you and I have very different tastes. I want my wedding and the parties to reflect my taste.”

I would say “thank you so much mama but I am not having that at my party”

cantwait2bwong :  I would tell her that you want a more formal vibe for your shower, but the hat and cake topper will be perfect for your bachelorette party.

cantwait2bwong :  This is totally my mom.  And she looses it when I say “thanks, no thanks” becasue my mom is loony toons. I have no advice, but I sympathize. My mom wants to put disposable cameras on the tables at my (27 person) wedding.  I was like, “Mom, you do realize that everyone has an smart phone and disposable cameras are useless, right?”  She did not take kindly to my comment.

My relationship with my mom, I would just straight tell her I didn’t like it and we won’t use it. But our styles are pretty much on the same page…but I definitely wouldn’t let her waste money on things if i could. And if it was bad I would just tell her no..

Is this the cap OP? I would defintely laugh about it though. Her heart is in the right place. Just give her a firm thanks but no thanks. Have fun at your party.

I agree with jsut saying “you know, we have different tastes” and leaving it at that.

My mom has some pretty out there tastes (I wouldn’t say tacky.. just.. random.)  She accepts “thats more a you think, not a me thing” as a reasonable answer.

Oh my god, I feel this so much. I never even wear sneakers because they are too casual for my tastes, and my mom is a cargo pants and baseball cap kind of gal….Following this thread for advice when I go down this same road hahaha! All you can do is laugh, and tell her gently that you’ve got all this under control.
