I am not cooking Thanksgiving dinner until tomorrow night, so I am so thankful that this happened today and not tomorrow. I was planning on spending the day making bread and pie. After completing the pie crusts and setting the bread for its first proof, I discovered that the sink was clogged up. My fiance and I spent about an hour trying to unclog it, to no avail. We tried plunging, we tried pushing air into the pipes through a shop-vac, and we tried yelling at it with extreme rage (while this felt good, it didn’t help). My fiance ran out to Wal-Mart to get a pipe auger, since the one we have wasn’t working. He left with the sink pipes taken apart so there was a nice open pipe under our sink. I was standing in the kitchen waiting for him to return when water started spewing out of the open pipe all over the floor and cabinet. I ran to it and started trying to catch the water and couldn’t get it all. The smell was overwhelmingly chemical and nauseating. I immediately wanted to gag and felt lightheaded. Turns out, our neighbor was having the same problem with her sink, so she decided to pour every chemical she had in the house down her sink. For 20 minutes both houses thought we were fixing the clog, but we were really just bouncing the water back and forth between our sinks. It’s disgusting!
We called our landlord, who cannot come out to look at it until tomorrow morning. He’s going to try to snake it out before calling a plumber to fix it. I went under the house and the maze of piping in the kitchens is going to make it almost impossible for an amateur to fix. We can’t wash any dishes, I can’t finish my pies, and I have to cook dinner for my family tomorrow. Luckily my mother has opened her kitchen in the event that our sink isn’t running by the time I need to start cooking tomorrow, but I am about ready to scream! I was able to get the bread in the oven, but the lack of ability to wash the dishes, take a shower, or run any water in the house is obnoxious as all get out!
I just needed to vent. Hopefully everyone else is having a better day than I am!
