Ok, so I know I’m new to this whole waiting thing, but here’s what I realized instantly. Yes this planning has been fun so far (we have most of the big stuff out of the way so I’m hoping that will help me enjoy at least some of our engagement and relax) – but it’s really stressful. Talking legalities and contracts and money and etiquette and emotions… it does take a little toll. Yesterday it hit me that although I’m SOOOOO thrilled it happend, part of me really does miss waiting… it was exciting and anxious and fun all in one. When I was waiting, I looked and looked at ideas and daydreamed about our wedding, and it was fun – but now I have to act on those ideas and make decisions. So what I’m saying is, yes actually planning and all of the congrats and attention is a lot of fun, it was fun to wait too. I think of it like when I was in college – while I was pledging a sorority, I hated every minute and couldn’t wait to be initiated – once I was, I started to miss pledging!!!! So my ladies in waiting, enjoy these moments, too. Hope that helps even the littlest bit!

Ditto Mattel. I loved waiting and definitely miss it. I wonder if I can go back to waiting and just sort of plan?
NAH!! lol! But I do miss it because now I have to worry about finding the perfect dress and the other “perfect” things to live up to my company’s reputation etc. I am physically sick thinking about it.

oh crebre – not to worry! you know it will all work out to be FAB-YOU-LOUS!! (notice i used the word “you” there )
ahh such sage words of advice, Mattel. but honestly, i can’t WAIT until i can start pulling the trigger. i’ve been daydreaming for like 2 years now!!! which is long enough to feel like i know what i want and i’m ready to go get it! i’m not a type A person at all but i looooove planning. making sh** happen is actually what i do for a living – i’m just waiting for my life to catch up!

@Mattel – I waited almost 4 years until he popped the question and I think your advice is SPOT ON. Although, it’s so hard to be on this side of it giving that advice to those waiting. I’m not sure I would have heard it and truly understood until going through it. Also, give yourself a few months to let it all sink in. Those first few weeks were the most overwhelming – I thought I had all the ideas sorted out – but when it came to making the actual decision it was a totally different ball game!! One day at a time – enjoy the ride!!

Mattel, I feel the same way!
I have been looking at ideas for a few months now and bookmarking things and now I have to go through all those bookmarks and actually call vendors and figure out not only what I like….but what I will DO for my wedding. It’s a very daunting!

I agree too, although I don’t know if I *miss* it. I didn’t like waiting at all, I was so impatient, but awhile afterward, I wished that I had stopped to “smell the roses” and enjoy it more, because it really is such an exciting time.
