I have the same issue with my venue and I don’t want to pay an arm and a leg either for chair cover rental.  So I decided I at least wanted chair sashes to make them look semi decent.  I went to this website http://www.weddinglinensdirect.com and found my color in the clearance section.  I bought 100 organze sashes for .79 each.  Basically I paid $79 and was going to pay almost $500 to rent cover and sash.  They look nice and…quite frankly I don’t think anybody is going to care if I have chair covers or not!

You might want to check out LinenTableCloth.com.  Depending on how many you need, ivory folding chair covers can be as low as $2.23 each, with free shipping if your order is over $50.  And if you register for the site (free) and use code twitter50082010, you can take a further 20% off.  Thus, the cost per chair cover can be less than $2.  And you can likely get at least most of your money back by reselling the chair covers afterward.  While you might be able to make them yourself for even less, if your sewing is not at a professional level, you may have a harder time reselling them, so the net cost may not be that different.
