I loved looking through all of your dress journeys & am so excited to finally post mine!!
I knew from the start that I wanted something fun & romantic rather than classic, as you can tell from all these big ‘ol skirts! I did get thrown of course by a more sophisticated mermaid dress, but in the end.. the ballgowns had me at hello. : )
Dress #1:White by Vera Wang 1011
I looked a ton online & was absolutely sure this was gonna be the one. I was so disapointed when I finally tried it on. It just didn’t seem to be made that well & didn’t feel too flattering in person. Crazy thing is, I still love it in the pictures – even on me! In person somehow it just didn’t look the same.
Dress #2: White by Vera Wang 1029
Ugh.. hated this one in person. I felt like it made me gain 10 pounds!!
Dress #3: White by Vera Wang 1007
So not my style, but my bridesmaids were convinced that everyone has to try on a total princess dress. This one definitely qualified!
Dress #4: Galina Signature SV415
Now we’re getting back on track. I really, really liked this one! It seemed to have a little more drama in person than in the photos though. Maybe a bigger petticoat underneath would’ve helped? I left (the terribly lit!) David’s Bridal with one good contender. : )
Dress #5: Wtoo Devon
Loved the price point on this one – under $1000 – score! But the skirt was made of bunched tulle that felt really stiff & scratchy. It didn’t feel as luxe as the Galiana Signature.
Dress #6: No Idea?
So I started thinking that I should try on at least one elegant & simple dress. The fabric was absolutely gorgeous but it just wasn’t me. And it was $5000! Holy crap!
Dress #7: Sottero & Midgley Fantastia
Loved this one!! I felt so thin & pretty in it… until I looked at the photos later that day. And all I could see was toilet paper! One of my girlfriends mentioned that offhand & now that’s all I can can think of when I look at the fabric of the skirt. Such a bummer. haha
Dress #8: Wtoo Zhanna
This one was the wildcard. I thought I hated mermaids until I tried this one on & fell in love!! I was so torn between this one & my final pic (next up!) – I even posted a poll here to get all of your opinions (thanks by the way!!). In the end, my fiance made the decision for me… he watched a Say Yes to the Dress episode with me that was heavy on the mermaids. And he hated every single one. Not even sort of disliked them.. he hated them. Needless to say, that knocked the Zhanna out of the running. Whew.. disaster averted!
The Dress!! Watters Adelaide
From the moment I laid eyes on this dress online, I was obsessed. I was so nervous to finally try it on, especially after my disappointment with the strapless White by Vera Wang dress. I was also worried it would overwhelm me, since I’m on the shorter side. When I finally tried it on though, I never wanted to take it off! I just feel so special in it!
(btw the plain fabric at very bottom goes away during alterations..)
I can’t wait for my fiance to see it!!! Although, in the meantime, pretty sure I’m gonna tease him that I’m got a mermaid dress instead..
Thanks for looking & can’t wait to see more of your dresses!!
