I am just going to have this little moment to be really really upset, and then I’m going to move on with my life.
Last summer, I found the perfect dress. I was able to buy it off the rack. We kept it at my mother’s for safe keeping. In an unstable rage, however, because she wasn’t invited to a wedding and I wouldn’t just slip her name on the RSVP card (because that’s just rude, especially since I was already bringing my fiance), she threw out my dress. Literally. She got mad and gloated that my dress was long gone when I went to go pick it up.
Months past before I could even think about anything wedding related. Finally I found a replacement dress. Ordered it. Got extra length because I’m six feet tall. Took a few months but it got here not too long ago.
Finally tried it on.
They forgot the extra length and it’s not a dress that can have a panel added at the bottom, and there isn’t enough fabric to extend it. I’ve been to three seamstresses with this dress, and they all say the same thing. They could put the panel at the bottom, but it wouldn’t look right at all. And they’re right. d
The designer will, of course, issue a refund because it was there error, but cannot guarantee me a dress by the time my wedding is here. They “don’t feel comfortable making that kind of promise”.
So now this weekend I’m going to David’s Bridal where I can hopefully find something I can buy off the rack.
Because my wedding is on May 2nd. I’m six feet tall and plus sized. And I have no wedding dress.
This was my little pity party, and now I’m done.

Oh.My.God.. your mother threw out your dress????? Remind me not to tick off my mom in the next few months.. that is AWFUL! All because she wasn’t invited to someone else’s wedding. Holy Issues!
I am so sorry for you! I hope that you find a dress that you love better than both of the other ones!!!

Oh my gosh – and I thought I had some mom stories to tell. I’m sorry that it’s been so difficult for you so far, but I’ve actually seen some great David’s Bridal dresses on these boards and I hope you find something that will make you happy enough to forget the other dresses.

I’m so sorry! What a horrible thing for your mom to do. Keep a positive attitude and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you find another great dress!

I am so, so sorry! What a terrible series of events. I really hope that you find the perfect dress off the rack and that there is a happy ending to your story 🙂 Another place to try is the Filene’s Basement Running of the Brides. You never know what you could find there.

What can I say after your mom throws away your wedding dress?

(((hugs))) That stinks.
I’ve been to both the Rockville David’s & the Springfield one. If you have a choice, go the Springfield location. It had better dressing rooms if nothing else.
I’m 5’7 and all the dresses I tried on at David’s were way too long, so hopefully you’ll be able to find something long enough.
I’d also recommend I Do, I Do up in Gaithersburg. They have a big selection of consignment dresses and I was pleased by their plus-sized selection. You buy those right off the rack, so you wouldn’t have to worry about ordering/shipping times.

I am so sorry, that is just awful!! I can’t even imagine how upset I’d be if someone threw away my dress.
I hope you have some luck at DB this weekend! Have you considered looking online for a preowned dress? You may be able to find something long enough and get it altered in time.

I am so sorry. If you don’t find anything you LOVE at David’s Bridal I would re-order your dress and ask them to expedite it since they made the mistake.
How are you and your mom now? I really can’t believe someone would do that!

Oh My God. (actually thinking the Holy S word)
Your mother threw out your wedding dress on purpose and then gloated about it.
I am stunned and saddened.
I know nothing of your budget or your personal style so I’m just going to throw some ideas out.
I know Watters Brides can do “rush gowns” , or maybe one of the “preowned” wedding gown sites, some of the gowns are unaltered so there may be something long enough, I am pretty sure I saw something close to the style of your dress at Davids on their website..I think..I’ll go look and come back with the link if I find it.
(I also think David’s has a 99 dollar dress ale coming up)
I live in Northern VA also and I’m taking my Mother-In-Law to Davids Bridal (in Springfield) this weekend to poke around, I’ll keep you in mind.
I know this may sound weird, but since I’m in the area if you need anything just PM me.

If you post which dress you had maybe the bees could do some looking and see if we find one that would work!

Why not add some tule instead of the regular fabric to the other dress? I’ve seen it done on a few dresses that it looks great on, I don’t know if yours is the type of dress that this would work with but it’s an idea . . . Good luck!

What was your original dress that your mom threw out? Is there any way you could try to find it on oncewed or preownedweddingdresses.com?
It could be out there!
