Is this before or after alterations?  How “too tight” is it?  Are we talking a 1 inch gap or the buttons just won’t quite meet the button hole?  Are you or are you planning to wearing shape wear?  So many things can contribute to the answer to your questions.

Before you panic take a look at the seams. How much extra fabric is there to let out?  Can the buttons be moved slightly?  Is the fabric single layer or multiple layers?  Lots of simple ways to fix this but you’re going to need to consult with a good seamstress.

You aren’t the first person to post this situation on here.  Don’t stress bee. The dress not fitting either means

a) you’ve put on some weight

b)the dress was ordered in the wrong size

c) the dress was altered to the wrong measurements

You have a few options. If the dress was altered incorrectly or ordered in the wrong size then you need to go back to your dress vendor/dress maker and demand a fix. If you’ve put on sone weight then you can take it to a seamstress to get taken out and altered to fit you. Wedding dress generally have a seam enough to let it out for alterations.  If your dress wont allow for a seam to be let out, your other option is to change your button up back to a corset back which will give you a few more inches to play with and to have it fit you.

I think it will be doable they usually have a seam allowance in the seam areas in things like this.  If not they can likely cut and put in a strip… this depends on the style.  Do you have a pic of the back?

This happened to me when I first ordered my dress and I completely panicked, the dress shop assured me that it would stretch after putting it on the first time and that the dress I tried on felt differently because other brides had tried it on before me. I was skeptical but it was actually totally fine and they were right.
