I think it depends on your skintone. For me personally I prefer ivory and I hate white dresses on my dark skin.

@PonytailKim:  have you tried on both colors? I think that’s the best and easiest way to tell.

Try on both colors, for sure. The thing that helped me most was I actually asked the consultant at the salon to walk outside with the dress on so I could see what the gown looked like in natural light. We’re getting married on the beach so this was important, but I think seeing it outside with REAL light against your skin will give you a much better idea of how the color looks on you.

White dresses on my super pale skin (strawberry blonde hair) looked REALLY weird, because I’m so white. They washed me right out.

I am also pale yet warmed toned though I have dark hair, and white dresses just made me appear pastey, while ivory brought out a bit of a glow in almost every dress I tried on. Just make sure if you go with ivory you have the mens shirts be in ivory too or it can make your dress appear darker then it is!

I have light skin and brown hair and I chose ivory. I think ivory actually looks better on most skin tones than white does (there are some skin tones that white looks great on, but I think less people that this is true for). You really can’t even tell that my dress is ivory from looking at most pictures though. In person you can definitely tell the difference – especially if it was hanging next to a white dress – but the ivory is softer and I think sometime the very stark white on some fabrics can look cheaper.

pale and warm tones go best with ivory! (I am also very pale, and this is what I have found to be the best color)
