My Fiance says that too me all the time, but I always remind him that there are a lot of things that have to be done closer too so why would I wait to do that stuff that can be done early. Makes way more sense.

Do things how you feel comfortable. I am wishing I’d been more organised in advance, and then I wouldn’t be rushing around so much now, so I say the more you can get done now, the better as your wedding will seem to come sooner than you think!

I totally agree with you!  I am getting married 7/7/12 which YES is plenty of time but not when you work full time and go to grad school at night.  Once school started I KNEW I wouldn’t have time for wedding nonsense so I got as much as I could done over the summer, including buying my dress.  Well, several people gave me the “OMG already!” response and I just told them to f – off.

ETA – I have my dress, picked my colors, STDs sent, booked the venue, got the travel agent (DW), got the photgrapher.

As someone who is getting married in 2 months…..do as much as you can now! Don’t let anyone stop you!!

Unless there is a chance you’ll change your mind on things…doing things now will save you stress later.

I’m getting married just a little bit after you and Fiance is always telling me not to buy anything because something might come up or something. He thinks I’m being too excited about it, but he doesn’t realize how much planning I’ve done. Honestly everything is planned, now I just need to make phone calls, buy stationery, book venues, send out cards and invites, buy the dress, figure out the cake, finish the guest list, find shoes, figure out what bridesmaids are going to wear, and everything else. Not stressful at all! Yell

We are getting married 2 years from now.  I contacted the photographer we wanted and she was already booked for our date.  9 months is not too soon to be planning at all.

I got this all the time too when I was doing the bulk of our planning a year ahead last may. It drove me crazy when people would say that. My wedding is in my hometown, which is a few hours away from where I live. I will only be visiting my parents 2-3 times before W-day, and I’ll be busy with holiday stuff. So yes, it was important to pick out a rehearsal dinner location 10 months ahead, since I wouldn’t have time to try out restaurants after that. (And I’m so glad I did, the first place we tried was awful!) My advice is ignore all the nay sayers. I love having tons of stuff done and be able to relax. I can do things as I have time and not be stressed.

@Pinksapphire:  Both of our families have been really supportive but by the time we will get married we’ll have been engaged for a year and a half for the main reason that it is giving us time to space out our finances and I’m doing a lot myself so it’s giving me a change to work my real job and still not kill myself on all my numerous DIY projects!  I say ignore them and keep up the work lady!  You’re totally in the right!

@MissBananaBread:  Like I said to Pinksapphire, by the time we’ll be married we’ll have been engaged for a year and a half and not even one week after we got engaged I contacted our photographer and we chose our date based on her schedule.  Luckily she had the date we wanted open, but I had already told Fiance that if she was unavailable for the date we had discussed we were changing our date because SHE HAD TO BE OUR PHOTOGRAPHER!!!! hahaha

It’s frustrating me too. Some vendors are already booked and then others laugh at me and say I’m the ONLY one for next year.. I don’t understand. If I know what I want, and I have the means to book things now – why wait?

Haha, I hear you!! There is nothing wrong with getting stuff done early when you have the time to do it! Just block out the naysayers and keep doing things on your schedule!
