- Wedding: September 2012
I am Brittany. I’m 20 years old and just recently engaged this past Christmas Day (2010)! It was absolutely perfect. My fiance and I have currently been dating somwhere between 6.5 to 7 years now–basically since my freshman year of high school (High school sweethearts!). He is just absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to spend the rest of our lives together. He is currently living and working in Cincinnati OH while I’m still in Alabama (where we’re from) finishing up my bachelor’s in Accounting. Wish me luck. We’ve set the date for three months after I graduate. It seems like forever but There is so much to do. So the purpose of writing this blog is to share my excitement, ideas, and concerns–as well as get opiions or feedback, advice, and make new friends! Here it goes…
The first thing every bride to be loves to show off, is of course their rings! Here is mine. <3
Next thing I did was get an idea of how much things cost and an idea of what we could afford. Also we picked a date (hate to admit this but we decided around our college’s football schedule..ROLL TIDE)
So next we decided on a venue! We’re getting married in Cullman, AL at Stone Bridge Farms. If you are from this area please look this place up on facebook or at stonebridgeweddings.com They are absolute angels and miracle workers. Once we booked the venue (ceremony and reception) for an all inclusive price we had pretty much taken care of the caterer, florist, decorater, cleaning crew, officiant, and coordinator. It was just fantastic. We’re planning on getting married outside in front of the pond if weather permits!
Before leaving the venue, after booking, I called a photograher, Shelly Hodge Smith. I had previously done my research and knew what type of photographer I wanted and what package. The hard part was finding one we could afford. After speaking with her, I put the check in the mail that night! We met later to go over ideas and get to know each other a bit more. She is going to be such a joy to work with and I can only hope we are able to sqeeze an engagement session out of our budget! (shellysmithphotography.net also on facebook) We decided on buying the DVD with all the pictures from the wedding with a copyright release. It is what works best for our budget and in the future when we recover from the wedding spending we will be able to get the prints we want without the worry of a time frame, losing contact, etc.
At this point I have been browsing wedding magazines and blogs like crazy. So we got to talking and have decided on our colors and overall feeling we want to get out of our decorating–Black and White Damask, with green accents (inspired by my prom dress and favorite color)
We agreed to give out chapsticks with our inital monogram on them in a green damask print as favors. This will match the wedding theme, budget, and chapstick is something most people can’t live without as well as mine and my fiance’s most used item of the few we ALWAYS keep on us. We figured it was pratical, unique, and somewhat thoughtful since they will be out in the sun and weather all day. These have not yet been ordered but the site is bookmarked and we’re just waiting closer to the wedding.
I thought we would pretty much put a pause here other than a few more things we need to book in order to fully save our date. But we decided to start going to all the fabulous bridal shows that our area offers in order to get ideas and try to win a free honeymoon! We didn’t win the honeymoon this round but we got some fantastic table cloth ideas.
Haha The very next weekend we met Jan Barnett from Barnett Bakery. It was this day that we decided on a general over all design and price for the Bride’s cake! it is so stunning I cannot wait to see how beautiful it turns out. I based it off of a picture I found in a magazine and then tweaked it for how many people I needed to feed and to better incorporate my theme. Sorry for the bad quality picture.
The modifications we’re going to make: the bottom layer will be exactly the same. The top and third layer will be the same except the ribbon will be green, there will be white polka dots (almost pearly) all over behind the ribbon, and with a real orchid–which is my favorite flower ever, if you can tell from my prom corsage! 🙂 the second layer will be the same except in the middle will be our initals. BCB. and the whole cake will have edible glitter sugar covering it for the glitz effect.
I am having such a hard time deciding on a cake topper. Any suggestions? I initally wanted a C cake topper but began to wonder if it would clash with the initials on the cake? I have plenty of time to change the cake if I do change my mind at least 🙂 So far we have only reserved the date for the baker.
Most recently, my Mom and I decided to stop by David’s Bridal to try on dresses and just get an idea of what I wanted. I had a pretty good idea, but it is always a great plan to try on the different styles you like to make sure you still like them after you see the way they fit. So we did. I fell in love with not one, but TWO dresses. They were completely polar opposites. One one plain with the most dramatic train. The other lacy, sparkly, very fitted, more feminine, with a short train. Well I’ll spare you the curiousity and let you know I picked the second dress. We also made some really incredible friends that day who were once complete strangers. I’m really enjoying this whole process. I hope you ladies are as well. But on to the DRESS! In the picture the dress is two sizes too big and we have ordered it but it has yet to come in..so this is all I have for now. PLEASE PLEASE let me know what you think!!
I know the pictures aren’t that great. But if you go to Davidsbridal.com you can see it better (Galina Signature SWG400). It is a semi sweetheart cut, lacey, with sequins all over until the bottom where it is a solid softer charmeuse. There are buttons down the back to the bottom of the butt where the train flairs out.
That is the sum of the most official decisions we have made.
Other things that are currently in the works:
A hair style and stylist,
Considering having my make up done,
Determining the wedding party,
Finising up the bridesmaid gifts! (these are so amazing, I will share once they’re complete,)
And a couple of other ideas I have collected in my wedding inspiration binder.
I can’t wait to share with you all everything else we make official. I have a few DIY projects I know you’ll love. I hope you enjoyed my blog. Sorry it was so LONG–I just had a ton to share. Most importantly I want to here your opinions, ideas, and advice. PLEASE provide feedback.
