- Wedding: June 2012
This was my second time shopping for a dress. (The first being Priscilla of Boston which turned out to be a bust for my body shape/style/and complexion). I was so inspired by all the blogs and posts about White by Vera Wang that I had to check it out for myself.
It took me one hour to try on six dresses. The consultant and staff at David’s Bridal were very professional, kind, and easy to deal with.
For reference I am 5ft1, my height in these photos is 5ft4 with heels on. The sizes seemed to be similar to normal clothing sizing. The consultant put me at a 2/4 and I am 0/2 normally. The only 2 I was able to try on was the one-shoulder dress, the other dresses were sizes 6 to 10 and were clipped.
The Good….The patterns and styles were really pretty. I was worried that the larger skirts would swallow my small frame, but they worked on 5ft1 me, so these dresses should work on other petite girls as well. The dresses photograph amazingly. I think most look better in the photos than in real life. The dresses flatter the body and slim down the torso. Overall I was really impressed by the collection and think one of these dresses may be The One.
The Bad…The quality of the fabric is not the best. Especially the mesh/netting on the dresses. The lace seems to be ok, but the mesh looks and actual fabric doesn’t look or feel luxe up close. The store only carried the ivory color, so I was not able to see the soft white in person. The matching horsehair rhinestone sash is really pretty, but for $148, it seems you could get something of higher quality elsewhere. Some of the larger poofier skirts photograph really well, but in real life they are much larger and a bit overwhelming on my frame.
Also on 6/22/11 the bridesmaid collection is launching. I asked the consultant if there would also be new wedding dresses and she said their would be. However I have not read about new White by Vera dresses launching on that date so I am not sure this information is entirely correct. I asked if I could return the dress if I changed my mind, the consultant said I could do an exchange but no outright returns. I believe I read somewhere that David’s Bridal accepts returns, so I was confused on this topic, and if anyone could clarify that would be helpful.
I cannot wait to see the new 6/22 dresses and will try to post when I see them.
Strapless Net Gown with Delicately Gathered Skirt Style VW351004 $700.Thoughts – Really modern and pretty. Wish the bodice was 2 panel shorter for my frame. Could look bad if it makes the torso look too long. Would be great for a modern city wedding. The mesh overlay at the bottom looks a bit cheap in person.
One Shoulder Gown Style VW351010 $1200Thoughts-very pretty in real life and in the photos. Nothing was really bad about this one, it just wasn’t what I was looking for. I actually prefer it without the sash.
Organza Fit and Flare Gown with Bias Flange Skirt Style VW351011 $1200Thoughts- My favorite one of the bunch. Cloth felt a littler cheaper than what I would like, but still my favorite dress so far.
V Neck Soft A Line Gown with Hand Appliqued Lace Style VW351021 $800Thoughts- Did not really like the split sleeves, so I tucked them in. The lace is really pretty in person. Did not like the mesh material in real life, but photographs well.
V Neck Ball Gown with Fully Draped Skirt/Style Style VW351029 $1,400Thoughts-My 2nd favorite. The side profile is the best of the dresses I tried on. This is a size 8, I am really 2/4, so it looks a bit wider at the waist. A bit deceptive, looks humongous in real life, but photographs proportionally.ess
