MrsEH:  Wow. She seems shady. Glad it worked out for you and the salon was on your side. I wonder if she didn’t want you to have the ‘evidence’ of the botched dress so that others wouldn’t see what a mess she made of it. Or I wonder if she was going to try and revise it and resell as a tea length dress? In any case, I’m glad you kept what’s rightfully yours.

I’m glad the salon was so supportive. How any professional could do this hem job is beyond me.

Those photos are unbelievable; I can’t even imagine how she would make a mistake like that!  I’m so glad that the salon is being so helpful; best of luck finding a new seamstress!

For rush work – my local Von Maur has been amazing. It’s expensive, but it’s been done very well and it’s worth the cost to me.

How much too long is the lace? If it’s not bad, it may not be worth shortening and just wear it over the hemmed under dress. My SIL is 5’2 and with 3.5″ heels, she didn’t need the skirt to be shortened.

MrsEH:  I can’t swear all Von Maur locations are great, but I’ve had success with three.  They’re certainly worth looking at if you can find a nearby location for future.

Who do local consignment shops recommend?

But for rush work, I’d stay with the already fitted satin dress.  Don’t need to add stress there, it works so go with it.
