yeah, at least a month normally–sometimes it can be up to 6 weeks, depending on when you did the shop. for example, for the july shops, i will get paid on august 18th. i did a shop on july 2nd, so that’s just over 6 weeks for the payment. youve got to either pay for it on a credit card or in cash. you definitely have to have a way to pay for the dinners when you sign up!

i’ve also done some retail secret shops, but i really prefer the ones that give me free food 🙂

The companies themselves actually pay for the mystery shoppers…it’s quality control.

In high school I mystery shopped Enterprise Rent a Car and other SoCal car dealerships by phone.  It was pretty fun for my first job!

@blondeeebuckeye:

Hi, I am interested too, because I have been out of work for 6 mos.  But I don’t want to go do the dinner thing.  I want to lose weight, be off salt, etc.  What about companies that I could shop for?  Thank you.

Yep, it’s legit. When I worked in a grocery store in college, my boss would review the mystery shopper results with the individuals involved. (If we passed we got $25.) They looked for stuff like if we were wearing out name tag, shirt tucked in, if we took them to the item rather than just saying ‘asile 3’, etc., basic customer service stuff.

@[email protected]: i know reality based groups does a lot of retails shops. but you still have to make a purchase and wait to be reimbursed. it’s not really a job where youre going to make a ton of money (unless you go with a different company). i might make an extra $35/month if i get 3 shops (and thats pretty rare, i normally only do 2 a month). the only reason i ever do retail shops is if i like the shop they are offering.

I do it but only for Long Horn. I just stumbled across a website (focusonservice.com) that does secret shops for them and yep— they pay for my meal! It is kind of fun. I wish I knew of more companies that did it… might check out blondeebuckeye’s links!
