(Closed) Nail Help! Gel/Acrylic/Scupltured?

Any kind of gel polish doesn’t last on me either. Some people’s nail beds are too oily for the gel to adhere correctly.

I’m old school. I do an acrylic overlay without the tips. It’s hard on my nails I guess, but I have had them done for several years. If you want to remove the acrylic after wedding stuff, get it done professionally and slowly.

Regular nail polish doesn’t last terribly long on me either, but I have good luck if I paint an extra high quality top coat (Essie Gel Setter Top Coat or the original OPI top coat) over my nails a day or so after I get them done. They stay “new” looking for around 10 days. I also usually get a plain sheer pink color and do touch ups if I need to. You may want to look into a light fresh pink color like OPI’s Bubble Bath or Essie’s Allure. Then, after you get them done, you can buy a bottle of that and touch up if you need to. That should keep you good to go for a couple weeks.

To me, french manis look kind of dated… like early 2000s. But I know people will disagree with me on that! 🙂 Also, without the tips to create the white part, the white part will be painted on… If that chips it is hard to fix without going back to the salon (unless you have white nail polish and a steady hand)!!!!

See if a salon near you has SNS Manicures!! I swear by them now! It is a dipping powder similar to an acrylic, but doesn’t smell, and your nails don’t look awful when they come off! The powder is the color, so there is no polish or anything to chip. My polish lasts through the day if I’m lucky, and gel barely makes it a week, but I can seriously go 3 weeks with an sns mani. Now my growth will show, but the color still looks fantastic! They are lighter and thinner than acrylics too, which I prefer.

jcaldwell14:  I get gel over my natural nails and they last at least 2 weeks, but I can usually get away with 3-5 with no chips. They help my nails grow out and aren’t as thick as acrylics or gel tips. I don’t really baby my nails but I also don’t do anything that I know would chip or break them. I try to wear rubber gloves if I hand wash more than a few dishes at a time or heavy cleaning to help them last longer. Maybe you could do that for the week(s) of your wedding and honeymoon?

SandyBee23:  That sounds interesting. I wonder if my nail salon will look into that.

I just did a pink gel overlay on my nails last week. It’s a lot thinner than regular acrylics.

I can’t really say much about the longevity because it’s only been 4 days.

jcaldwell14:  I’ve never done an overlay, but I prefer gel over acrylic tips/wraps. Gel usually lasts on my nails for about a month.

jcaldwell14:  Have you ever tried nail wraps? After applying, the first day or two you have to press out the bubbles but after that they settle in really well and last forever without peeling! Takes a few tries to get the system down and from start to finish takes about 1hr to apply. I use these when I don’t want gel. Highly recommend. I’ve only ordered them from this seller before– they have french tips too! https://www.etsy.com/listing/253825774/white-french-transparent-nail-wraps?ref=shop_home_active_66

jcaldwell14:  I think the pink gel is less harsh on your nails but I’m not entirely sure. Yes you can paint anything on top of the nail. I went with french because I have an event coming up but they can do any color. You could also try an american manicure. It’s the same concept as french but much more subtle and natural. Just Google american manicure to see pics.

SandyBee23:  I have literally just discovered the powder ‘way’ and am in love. OP, I would recommend this as a top choice too!

jcaldwell14:  Yes, they are similar to jamberry. I’ve never tried those myself but can tell you that my So Gloss came off just fine without damaging my nails. You can soak also them in warm water or run a blow drier over them to make them loosen more first if you’re worried.

I get SNS nails and can honestly say that this is the only method that doesnt chip or color fades for weeks. My nails last for 3 weeks. I only get them redone because of the grow out but the color and shine of the nails are still there.

I adore gel polish.  My manicurist treats my nails twice with the drying / ph adjustment stuff and it will last a solid two weeks and then some.

The look of a french manicure is clean and elegant and timeless.  Perfect for a wedding.

jcaldwell14:  I paint my nails with 2-3 coats of mademoiselle from essie, when they chip it barley shows and looks almost like a french without being the aggressive white tip. I really like it for vacations because i can always throw on another coat and the color just becomes pinker.

I’m also crazy about my nails
