does anyone still get acrylic nails?! I am getting my nails done (it’s been forever)… I used to just get gel manicures but I am looking for something that really holds up. I wash a lot of dishes and paint. Any tips? Or pics! I was thinking a set of acrylics but am not sure if that’s a “thing” anymore. These are what I was considering:

I couldn’t justify the expense of the upkeep of going to a salon every 2 weeks after spending money on the initial trip for acrylics. On a whim… I tried the active ovals and short square from kiss. They last 1 week+, its about $6 for a min of atleast a month and a half of nails. And after a week, im ready for a new color anyway. Ive gotten pretty good at it… And doing my nails has become kind of a hobby trying different nail arts.
I work in a print shop, use my hands a lot… And have only had one nail pop off the entire 5 months I’ve been doing my own. 🙂

I love my nail salon and they always try to talk people out of getting acrylics unless you want longer nails without taking the time to grow them out. I think natural nails (with or without gel) are more popular these days. My gel lasts forever! When you wash dishes, can you wear gloves? That’s what I do to keep them dry.

thanks! I think you’re right about acrylics being a bad idea.
i could wear gloves but I feel like I constantly wash dishes 🙂 I’m not sure how diligent i would be! Ha
thanks! I’ve never tried those, maybe I’ll have a look!

Acrylics are definitely still a thing, but I actually really love glue-on nails, specifically from Static Nails because their glue will last you at least 12 solid days if you apply enough to cover your nail.
The glue seriously hardens to practically plastic. You actually need to be careful because if you don’t like how they look, you have to soak your hands in hot water for hours, or you have to just wait until the glue wears down in strength over the next couple of weeks.
Just pick out the nails that fit each finger, glue them on, clip to trim down, and file. They do file pretty easily.

I occasionally get acrylics because I am a serious nail biter. I’ve tried the press/glue ons but I always end up popping them off and if one comes off I have to take the rest off. I don’t go over the top with length though and only need a fill in every three weeks because the gel polish stays on so well.

I’m pretty sure the whole world are over acrylics but I got mine done for the first time the other month and just had them filled in today. I know my nails will need tlc after but my nails always tear and peel anyway. They look nice and I like them. Ironically my nails have grown super quick underneath them.

I think a soak off gel is less damaging, and gel can be just as strong. You aren’t wantign super long, so I would do gel. Bio Sculpture or Calgel are both excellent products.

If you’re looking for another long-lasting option besides gel, you can try dip powder! I saw a beauty video on Youtube where 3 women tried out regular nail polish, gel, and dip powder to see how long each one lasted, and the dip powder lasted just as long as the gel!

Your nails will REALLY thank you for wearing gloves while washing dishes! It’s a really great habit to build! My nails used to be so weak and brittle and I started wearing gloves to wash dishes and my nails started growing so long! I get powder dipped “gel” polish- it lasts up to 8 weeks but obviously I need to get fills for my cuticle line every 3 weeks or so!

I get UV gel manicures (its not just the gel polish) and they hold up very well. I maintain by getting them filled once a month.

I still wear acrylic nails, mine can last for a month. They lift once they grow out but if you find a great nail person they can absolutely last. I wash dishes too and am generally rough with mine. i don’t do gel mostly because they look exactly the same as acrylic but are twice as expensive. I just don’t think it’s worth spending double the money to get the exact same look. No one can tell the difference anyways.

Thanks for all the input!! It was helpful. I went today.. the lady suggested the “dip” nails, and that is what I went with. We will see how long they last!

Dip powder will make your nails super strong to grow naturally. It’s also healthier than gel because there’s no UV light required. And it lasts for everrrrrrr. Honestly, I usually have to go back to the salon and get it taken off there when I want to change it.
