I found it pretty dry, because there’s no frosting to seal in the moisture. although frosting is my favorite so I always feel cheated with those cakes

I made one for a colleague’s son’s wedding. I made a mini one first to see how I would go as I’d never done it before and didn’t really like it. She loved it though and wanted me to go ahead with it so I made a larger, 4 tier one. Everyone raved about it so either the size made a difference or my tastebuds are just really different to most people haha.

Oh and it wasn’t dry at all (there was enough cream between the layers to keep it moist), I just wasn’t a fan of the flavour combination.

I had one and it was amazing!!! We had Italian meringue in between our layers. I live in a hot climate and had no issues with the cake drying. Just make sure you have a great baker….there is no where to hide with a naked cake as you just can’t fill in the gaps with icing. There is probably more icing with these cakes because of all the layers! I only had a quote for the naked cake so I am not sure of the pricing but I did find the price I had was very reasonable. They do look amazing in photographs.

Partially naked cakes look great too.

My sister had a naked cake for her wedding. She copied Hilary Duff’s wedding cake – if you search online for that, you’ll see what it looks like. The cake looked stunning and unusual. It also perfectly fit with a barn reception. The cake wasn’t dry in the slightest and was delicious. I don’t recall how much it cost, but I know it was expensive. I would have seriously considered a naked cake for my wedding, only many of the guests will be the same and I’m trying to make my wedding a little different.

We had a naked wedding cake and it was a huge hit. We did a strawberry shortcake so she put some strawberry pieces right in the middle. It was SO good. One of our guests had four slices! She did have concerns about it drying out but she put a clear sugar glaze of somesort on the outside to keep the inside moist. Also, we did have to pay more because she had to do most of the work on the cake that morning to keep it fresh and moist. It was WELL worth it!

I love them, I think they look great especially if they match your theme. I cant imagine why it would be dry, surely its just like a victoria sponge cake? but in different flavours and toppings.

We had one! Our baker had to make it the morning of the wedding so it wouldn’t dry out – it was amazing! We did a simple vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and then they added berries that we bought ourselves. It costed about $.50 less per serving than a regular wedding cake at the same bakery.
