Just got married on 12/31/13! It was awesome and beautiful 🙂 but techinically it was in 2013 which means we can file our taxes together.
I just got my certified marriage license in the mail and plan to go change my name in social security asap, and of course all the other important places too. We will probably go to file our taxes some time in feb-march.
My only issue is my W-2’s are all coming in my maiden name. Is that ok?? Can I still file them that way even if if my legal name on my taxes will be filed in my married name? Do I need to go back to my employer(s) and ask for them to change it?
Surely I’m not the first person who has had this problem?? 🙂
Thanks for your help!!!!!!

@laurel946: I had an issue the first time I got married so I am waiting to change mine until after we get our tax return in the bank. The first time my check was delayed by a month while they sorted out the different names on everything.

Your employer should be able to reprint your W2s once your name is legally changed and it has been changed in their system, then you can send them in with your married name on them when you file your taxes.
