I had to wait until I got my new card in FL. Each state is going to be different though…

Yep, each state is different. I got a temporary SS card the day I went, so that way i could go right to the DMV and get my new license. Did you receive a temporary SS card by any chance?

I would look online at MD’s policy, since all states are different.

In Kansas they didn’t care about my SS card. . all they wanted was the document responsible for changing my name — the marrige certificate.  Luckily I never made it back there and didn’t end up changing my name on my license the first time around.  The marriage ended before I was due to renew.

In Texas you just have to have the recipt from the SS office (that has your new name listed).

each state is different.

here in NC. i didn’t have to wait until I got my new physical paper SSC in the mail but they told me to wait 3 days until going to the DMV so it could be processed in the system digitally.  They gave me a recipt of sorts – like a paper showing my new name from SSC to bring with me to the DMV.

I didn’t need the marriage license at the DMV – only SS office.  It only acts as a ‘reason’ to change your name – not the actual name change form.  My new name isn’t on the license anywhere.

In CA, I went to the SS office and changed my name. Did not receive a receipt. From there went straight to DMV and was able to change my driver’s license. Both arrived in the mail about 1 week later.. It was pretty painless.
