Does anyone know if you can have 2 last names? I am pretty sure I will be First Middle Maiden His, but I am grappling with do I want my first name to be First Middle (two first names) with middle name as Maiden, last name his…..or do I want my middle name to be Middle Maiden (2 middle names), or my last name to be Maiden His (two last names).
I know I will use his name as my surname most of the time, so I am worried about that being the one that gets dropped if I have to write my last name on a form, but I think my maiden is too important to just relegate it to being the SECOND middle name. I do not want to do hypenated – it’s clunky and I think would offend my fiance (though I am pretty sure he wouldn’t try to discourage me if I was set on it). I don’t want to drop my middle because it’s very unique. I hated it growing up, which was kind of a slap in the face to my mom who picked it. Now that I am an adult with enough self-esteem to finally like the unusal name, I don’t want to ditch it.

I wanted four names (two middle, like you suggest) but then I decided that four names would be too much of a hassle, I’m actually dropping my first name (which I don’t go by) in order to be Middle (name I use) Maiden Last. Before I decided not to do the four name thing, I think we’d decided that the easiest thing to do would be two middle names.
The only pain in the you know what about the whole thing is that I’m going to have to go through the courts to change it, but I don’t mind, the process is fairly simple here in NYC.

Thanks! That sounds like a really good solution for you! I am almost always called by my first name, though a few family members call me by my middle once in a while, or firstmiddle, probably to avoid confusion because my first rhymes with my mom’s nickname. So far as the court thing goes, we’re both lawyers – I sometimes handle motions for name changes at my current job, fi’s office is in the courthouse I’d most likely be going to, btwn him & his cousin they know all the judges there, etc so I am 0% phased about that aspect. First real perk of my career choice!! (PSA: never become an attorney, bees!)
Oh, also if people wanted to use my first initial & middle initial as a nickname if those both became my first name, it’d be LC, like Lauren Conrad, and I think she’s excellent, so no complaints on that front lol. Though it might be weird to have to tell people I just go by First not FirstMiddle?
