I think we are sisters.  My brother and I have my mom’s last name as our middle name!  His wife didn’t take my brother’s last name when they were married…but I plan to take my fiance’s.  I don’t really care about it, actually.  I will keep my real name professionally, and use his in other ways, I guess.  My mom did say she would be disappointed, but she’s not going crazy!

It is your choice.  My son’s Fiance is not taking his last name and that is no business of anyone but the two of them.  Stick to your plan!

my mom got all misty-eyed when I told her I was completely dropping my last name for DH’s, citing “we’re going to be so disconnected!” as a reason. I found it strange – she never took my dad’s name! So uhh … we never shared a last name *facepalm*

It’s a shame she doesn’t realize that her IL’s were probably scandalized when she DIDN’T take your Dad’s last name, and so it comes full circle. She’ll get over it.

She got to choose which last name to use.  You get to choose yours.  I think it’s a tad hypocritical of her to be upset.

In her day, she did something that probably scandalized her mother (didn’t change her name).  Just deserts? 🙂

It’s your choice, just like keeping her name was her choice. While I respect your mother’s opinion, it really isn’t up to her or any of her business.

My mom was pretty upset too! Mainly because my maiden name was a much prettier name than my married name.
