When I went to the DMV to change my  name, they were ticked I wanted to change the name on my title. They told me that most people leave this the same, and that they rarely do it.

Did you change the registration over?

@MrsPinkPeony: Must be the registration, as if you make payments, the company you pay holds the title still I thought? I know we didn’t have the title for our new car (since we make payments), but I just switched the registration for it and my main car.

Your registration and your drivers license should match each other and the name on your car insurance policy

No tax problems with it, your maiden name will always be attached to your SSN so the name doesn’t matter.

I still haven’t changed the name of the deed of our house.  I don’t think it matters until we sell but I will deal with it then.

@MrsSaltWaterTaffy: And even when you sell, just bring your marriage license with you. I don’t think it should be an issue – I’m not changing ours as I do not want to deal with the cost (and time spent doing it).

I never changed my name on my old car title (eep… oops! I totally never thought about it) and when I sold it, they didn’t care at all. I seriously had my stomach hit the floor when I realized the name was different than my current name – but I just had to show them an official ID with my current name. If you are concerned when you go to sell, you could just bring your marriage certif and current ID.

I was told at the DMV when went to change my name on my car title not to do it.  They told me it is way to much of a hassle to do that.

I changed my name on my driver’s license and vehicle registration but I do not recall having changed my name on the title to my vehicle.

I have my name changed on all the major documents pretty much so I shouldn’t have any tax problems. I still have to change it on a few credit cards and on the Gas bill though.  Fortunately enough for us, we bought a car after we got married so my married name went on the title of the car and registration along with my Husband’s.
