I’m in Massachusetts and have done a lot of extensive research on how/when to change your name. According to my research, you write you newly intended name on the Marriage License, and that serves as your intent to change name.
However, my Fiance and I just went to apply for a license, and there wasn’t any place for your intended name! There was a place where you put your new last name, but I want to change my middle name to my maiden name. I asked the clerk how I did that, and she said: oh you don’t need to change it, you just start using it.
What?? Is that true? I can just “change” my middle name to whatever the heck I want and start using it? I want it legally changed! Are there any brides in Massachusetts who legally changed their middle names? How did you do it?
