Mine did not.  All they did was look at it, and flippantly at that.

Mine didn’t even look at it, really, just wanted to know I had one/see me pull it out. They didn’t keep any of our paperwork.

nope, they wont keep it. and they barely glanced at it like a couple other bees already said. I was at the counter for maybe 10 minutes max and sitting in the waiting area for almost 2 hours. LOL Hate that!

@sapphire–stars:  Hello my fellow Knoxvillian 😉  Something that was a HUGE help for me, was to print out and complete the form online to request the name change.  Then just take your marriage license, they’ll make a copy (I think) and that’s that.  They don’t keep it.  Although the wait to get to talk with someone was like 20-30 minutes for me, it only took like 30 seconds with a representative once my name was called since I already had all the paperwork completed.  Just go to ssa.gov and under “Useful Links” in the middle, click on name change.  It will tell you everything you need to bring and has a link to the application.

11 more days to go!!  Yay!!

This is how getting your SS card works:

You wait in the waiting area for over an hour with this big shit grin on your face becuase you are still beaming from being a newlywed. Then you go up to the counter and say, “I just got married, and I need to change my last name on my SS card” to some crabby middle-aged man who immediately wipes the newlywed glow off your face by sighing heavily and saying “yeah, that’s real nice. License?” You show him, he gives it back, and sends you a new card.
