So, I’m all geared up to change my name. I’ve filled out my forms, I’ve got my checks in order, I’m ready to go! I call our local Social Security office and I find out that my plans aren’t going to work out quite like I had hopped.
We just found out that Darling Husband got a job in another state and we’ll be moving in two short weeks. Not long after that we’ll be going on our honeymoon, in another country. Apparently, with all of these changes, I won’t be able to get my new passport in time and I can’t start the name change process and then travel with my old passport.
It’s looking like I will have to wait and change my name in our new state, after we get back from our honeymoon and after we finish switching over our information from one state to the other. So, in addition to changing all of our important life documents to another state, we’ll have to do it AGAIN with my new name.

Are your tickets for your honeymoon in your maiden name or your new name? That could be the deciding factor…

Adding to what abbie017 said – how is your passport titled?? I believe your airplane tickets and passport need to match. FI and I applied for passports and opted for the express service for an extra $150 (I think that was both of us) and we got our passports in less than 10 business days.

You can go to the Social Security office in any state to have it changed. I live in Illinois and went to one in Indiana just last week. To have your passport changed it doesn’t really matter on the state jus the mailing address to send it to.

I agree that you will need to wait until after you travel. This would have been the case even if you didn’t move since you can’t start the name change process while traveling under your old name.
Which forms will you have to change because you went to a different state? Social security, bank forms, etc should all be the same, the only different thing is the drivers license.
