I’ve been wondering if a name change kit is really necessary. I’m interested in reading the feedback you get.

Honestly…changing my name on my own hasn’t been difficult at all. I personally wouldn’t spend the money on the kit.

With your SS card, for example, you can download the form you need right on the Social Security Administration website, and then just bring it in, along with your driver’s license and marriage license. And once you have your new SS, you can go on to get everything else changed.

I guess a kit could help you stay organized, if you’re worried about that. But there also plenty of free info online (and on WB) about things to keep in mind, etc.

I bought a groupon for missnowmrs.com, haven’t used it yet though.

@MeganTacky2247:  I went on my lunch break to the SS office, banks, and the DMV and it was fine. I bought the missnowmrs package and only used it to print out the passport form. It doesn’t actually eliminate the need to go to places. Credit cards and loans can be done through mail with copies of your marriage license once you get your new SS card and license. If I could go back, I wouldn’t have bought the kit.

I didn’t need a kit to do anything.  It is all relatively easy – just kind of a pain in the butt finding the time to go to all of the places.  But the kits don’t eliminate that so I really didn’t see the point.

I didn’t use a kit and I think I spent maybe 2 hours total at different places.

Those kits are nice for giving you all the paperwork but they don’t make the lines any shorter, so I passed.

@MeganTacky2247:  Nope, the kits just give you the forms you can get everywhere else for free. You definitely still have to go everywhere in person.

I had the same trouble as you in terms of business hours. I just found time on my lunch, etc. The DMVs around here (I know you’re a Cincinnati girl too) are open on Saturdays. So you can do your DL on a Saturday morning if need be. My credit card just needed an email, I went to the bank on a Saturday, etc. You may just need to find time on a lunch to go to SS.

It really hasn’t taken long at all for me. Like I said, I work during business hours, and the only tricky one was SS. But that’s unavoidable, even with a kit.

Do it through http://WWW.HITCHSWITCH.COM

It was like $35 bucks and they send you a folder with all the documents pre-filled out. with envelopes and stamps for mailing. You literally just sign and pop it in the mail.

so EASY!

Honestly, I wouldn’t bother with a kit. Like others have said, go during your lunch break from work to do things like visit the SS office and DMV. A lot of the other name changes can be done over the phone (credit cards, etc.). I filled out very few actual forms and those were simple and fast to get for free online.

I originally considered a kit, but it turned out to be much easier than I thought.
