- Wedding: October 2011
I’ve got kind of a strange question. My Fiance and I have had a joint checking account for almost a year, along with our own individual, non-shared checking accounts. We don’t write too many actual, physical checks – we mostly take care of things online, so we haven’t yet gotten around to getting checks for the joint account. When we do need to write the occasional check, I just transfer the money out to my personal account, and write a check from there. However – my personal checks are running out, and I’ve recently realized that it might make life a little more simple if we could just write checks from the joint checking, since that is the account we primarily use. The wedding is in less than 5 months, and I do intend to change my last name. Should I get the checks for the joint account in my maiden name, or in the name I will be in 5 months? Are they valid if I get them in my future name now? As I said, we honestly don’t write that many physical checks (I’m going to guess that we will write less than 5 checks total in the next 5 months), and I just don’t want to waste a lot of money ordering checks that I will then be throwing away! Would love to hear your opinions on this one.
